That's not a decommitment. I'll show you a decommitment. 8)

Until a kid signs a LOI he is fair game, as long as he agrees, tweets about I, etc. Pulling an offer is something else again, especially in Dec/Jan his senior year.

I am afraid the practice goes back a long, long way further than the millenial generation - perhaps unless you meant a previous millenium.

Another one-time Michigan commit announces that he is looking elsewhere. I appreciate his candor.

Twitter really needs to expand beyond 160 characters.
Harbaugh really needs to manage his recruiting class better. Because that quote on Karma is going to prove prescient. Believe me it will be a negative recruiting pitch.

I doubt it'll be an effective tactic, though. Kids and their parents will think "won't be me."

No, but recruiters can tell a recruit who is about to commit, "Don't commit yet to Michigan. If they really want you, they will kick someone out in their recruiting class later to make room for you, and if they don't, they will not honor your commitment, so there is no benefit to you to committing at this time." Recruiters will do it because they will feel that they can keep the kid more in play; although decommitments from the recruits' side are becoming more common, there is still an element of epistemic closure once a recruit has committed to a school. And, even if the kid ultimately does wind up committing to UM, it will slow early momentum down.

"It's all business"
By the way, I had to laugh at this line:
Quote:University presidents would feel queasy about signing players before their high school grades are clear. So tell your coach not to sign players early. If the NCAA wants to be serious about academics, it could make a scholarship unusable if a signed player ultimately doesn't get admitted into school. Then watch how judiciously coaches handle scholarship offers.
The number of schools where it would be possible for a signed player not to get admitted into school is a very lonely number indeed. This (allowing student-athletes to sign whenever they wanted) would be a disaster for Stanford.

Well, you know what they say. "Do not be deceived. You will reap what you sow."
