This just shows me how clueless Wilner is and how weak his sources are.
Ha, I think we are his "sources," Winflop!
I see Collins and Madsen only as assistants at this point. This search will be very interesting given Muir's basketball history and his position on the committee. It is his first major hire.  I'm hopeful he had already compiled a short list and was doing some scouting while in Las Vegas.

I have a sense that he's been scouting for a good part of the year as any good AD would do so that he has a backup plan. A good idea always has a backup plan for any head coach because you never know - not always at end of a season.
I also think he has a good deal of insight on the top mid-major head coaches (e.g., Archie Miller) given the length of time he's been involved with MBB.
Lots of pressure on the hire but I've got more faith in his ability to hire a basketball coach than baseball or football.

When Bowlsby fired Wlat, I had confidence that he knew what he was doing and would hire a great coach and turn the program around. He did. I'll admit he did fumble the next big hire in basketball, but the overwhelming opinion of players, fans, and followers thought he made the right move. It wasn't.
In Bernard's case, I have no reason for confidence or to give him the benefit of the doubt. He has shown that he is comfortable with average or less. I hope I am wrong.Â
But I think that Stanford Football can sustain me for a few more years. And...I still have the memory of a 45 point drubbing of UCLA at Maples, a Final 4, and host of other memories from Stanford Basketball.

I like Jarron Collins but he would be the wrong hire. I hope Wilner is wrong.

Two weeks means anyone not in the final four or NBA will be done. That's a pretty big universe of coaches.

Wikipedia says that Jarron Collins was a two-time All American in college. I am close to 100% that that is false. he was a McDonald's AA in high school.
But, wow, that team his senior year...

I guess they are counting his appearances on 2 different All American (Honorable mention TSN and AP) teams in his senior season (2001) I think he was also Second Team on some lesser known list.
Interesting aside... Never knew Arrillaga was an All American and a Stanford HOF er!

OK. I stand corrected on two counts. I did not know that you could be called "All American" if you were honorable mention, and I did not know that you could be called a "Two-Time All American" if you were listed in two lists in one year. Would that mean that Andrew Luck was a fourteen-time All American?

Sure why not - he deserved to get it that many times seeing as he was the best player in college football for two years in a row
