It isn't readily apparent to me why most of these messages aren't getting deleted under the declaration
Quote:I will be deleting messages that refer to politics, but have no readily apparent relationship to Stanford sports.

I presumed that declaration was meant to apply to all discussions of politics and not just some.

Corey Booker is a former Stanford football player, so there is a relationship to Stanford sports, even if tenuous.

Here's an article from Vox discussing the shortlist and the pros and cons of each.

3/9 from Stanford, including Booker, Castro, and Becerra.

Right now, I'm watching to see whether it stays civil. If it's horserace stuff, and relates to Cory, it will probably stay.

Re: Cory Booker being vetted for VP... - TrumpCard - 06-16-2016

Garcetti is a name I have not heard. He's certainly smart and a good speaker and reflects the diversity of our country. On the other hand, the LA Times editorial board give him a midterm grade of "C" for failing to take on tough issues and for appointing political allies, rather than experts, to important positions. It's tough to compare Garcetti's resume with Warren's, for example, because they took such different tracks in life. But Garcetti's resume is more readily comparable to Booker's, and Garcetti does not come out on top.

Wait until the ad hominem attacks start.

That's why I said the horserace stuff involving Cory would probably stay. It's when we start talking about actual policy that the ad hominem attacks start. Note that it's pretty limited, as well. Discussions of the Castro brothers, Dianne Feinstein, etc. are off limits.

You know that Mick guy is an idiot and you shouldn't listen to a thing he says.

I think Alex Sink would be a good candidate.  Yes this is legal.  8)

Stanford prof takes herself out of VP talk ( again).

Left unmentioned is that she needs to be able to spend time on football recruiting.

Unless she's running for President, I'd say she has her priorities straight.  But hey, a black woman president who loves Stanford football?  Maybe we can dream.

Booker (sorta) took himself out of public discussion... - FrankO - 06-17-2016

TV report said he was 'flattered' but his becoming VP candidate most unlikely... but you never know...

as to others... agree with Hulk... VA Senator Kaine helps deliver needed key purple state VA...

LA Mayor Garcetti adds nothing... CA Hillary's come hell or high water

same with Castro and Baccetti, adds nothing... she alreadfy has all the Latino (non Cuban) vote... and Trump still wins Texas and Hillary CA

Re: Cory Booker being vetted for VP... - washingtonismoney - 06-17-2016

Think it's a mistake to view the VP as "adding" something. What state or constituency did Cheney or Biden bring? None and none... In each case the Presidential candidate added the VP because of his help in governance, and his (perhaps perceived) soundness and competence in the event that the VP had to ascend to the top spot.

So I expect Hillary to pick someone she trusts in terms of governance. However, I don't have a great feel for who that is; and because the Obama years have been so tough on downballot Dems, Clinton doesn't have a lot of options. (Which is why Mayors and relatively unknown members of Congress are on her list...)

OK, end of discussion, then.

Re: Cory Booker being vetted for VP... - BostonCard - 06-17-2016

The vice presidential pick brings more than geography to the mix.  Sure, adding a swing state running mate probably helps at the margins, but there are other issues at play.  Adding certain demographic or political groups may help increase enthusiasm for the candidate from that group.  There is also the question of ticket balancing.  In both Bush and Obama's cases, the presidential candidate was fairly young and less experienced; both turned towards running mates with experience (particularly foreign policy experience).

For Hillary, the question isn't experience.  She may want to pick a liberal to shore up support for her among the Sanders (liberal) wing of the party.  She may pick a Latino or African American running mate who might shore up support with those two groups.  Or she might try to pick someone younger and "fresher" to counter the perception that she is too old or too much of an insider.

But I hope she picks the most competent candidate; someone who can provide her sound advice should she get elected.
