33 days till kickoff - martyup - 07-31-2016

33 DTK . . . that's the number of yards gained in last year's win against ND by our secret WMD BLOVE:

You making your own Marty?  Stanford football picked another running back, #33, the career rushing record holder at Stanford (maybe not for long, though):

Man, Taylor really saved the team a lot of times in 2012.

I know I am a day late.  But can we rewind to 33 days so that we can watch this one too?  A play that clinched Stanford's first Rose Bowl berth in 28 years.

F Middle for the win!  One of those great "weenie deflating" moments I will never forget, along with the end to the 1990 Big Game.

30! - martyup - 08-03-2016

30 DTK!

I just re-watched our 2015 game against UCLA.  What a thing of beauty.  This game had the Owusu miracle behind-the-defender's-back TD catch, C-MAC going off on the Bruins, the Holder pick 6, and the Rosen One going down to a hard defeat.  Here's a link to watch it in about 40 minutes (all of the fluff edited out):

ENJOY!

I really liked that Stephan Taylor highlight reel. One play in particular stands out to me -- Taylor's TD reception against Oregon State in 2012, which was a season-changing play. Stanford was behind 23-14 and was not playing well. Taylor's TD was a great individual effort. It turned the game around and kept us on track for the Rose Bowl.

It was also a great play by first-game starter Kevin Hogan to move as the pocket collapsed and find his outlet wide open in the flat.

Definitely a play that sticks in my mind as a key season-turner.

I'll never forget it, my view of it wasn't that good as I was on the field behind the other endzone for that season's FotS recognition!  ;D

Just me, or did Rosen stare down his receiver on the Holder pick-6?

Holder's spin move on the return is one of the most athletic maneuvers I have ever seen.  What incredible balance!!!!!

Actually, it was more than a great individual effort.  Hogan made a great effort, buying time in the pocket and getting rid of the ball to Taylor just a blink before he would have gotten sacked.  Of course, Taylor's individual effort is great, including a nice juke that allowed him to beat the defender one-on-one and get to the first down.  But then Drew Terrell gets a nice block on two Beavers at the 20 yard line that allows Taylor to spring out of the sideline.  And of course, Taylor dazzled again with a sick stiff-arm at the 12 yard line that gave him a path to the end zone, and then a burst of speed to make it into the end zone before a pair of Beavers converged upon him.

Great team effort, highlighted by three great individual efforts.  A lesser QB would have gotten sacked or thrown the ball away.  Without Terrell, Taylor's block gets a nice gain, but no touchdown.  And of course, Taylor had a great run.

Re: 47 days till kickoff - BostonCard - 08-04-2016

We are now less than a month away from kickoff!  No 29-day post, but I did like this throwback Thursday

https://twitter.com/stanfordfball/status/761310106596220928

Has any player had 100 yards four ways (rushing, receiving, kickoff returning, and punt returning)?  I'm hoping McCaffrey does.

You're not throwing passing yards in there?  :P
(I know they don't count for all-purpose yards, but it would be extremely impressive.)

28 DTK - martyup - 08-05-2016

That's just four weeks!  28 is the average yards gained by C-MAC in kickoff returns last season.

27 days till kickoff - martyup - 08-06-2016

27 DTK

That's the number of TDs scored by Kevin Hogan last season.  Can either Chryst or Burns match that?

Hogan's 27 TD passes were tied for the 3rd most in Stanford history (Luck has seasons with 37 and 32 TD passes). In addition to the 27 TD passes, Hogan had 6 rushing TDs and 1 receiving TD. Pretty impressive.

I don't expect Burns or Chryst to match that. But I don't think they have to match that for us to have a very good season.
