Hmmm..seems like if it were the call of some here (outsider, etc) it would be  just say only 1 Hail Mary and then get out there and Wake up the Echoes

possession of Illegal guns is in fact a serious offense... as is possession of pot under Indiana state law... these idiots stupidly broke the law and put their team in a hole (last I read, Indiana still not Colorado, much as you all might wish it).

Will be interesting to see what, if any,  punishments meted out... there will be some... how much TBD

PS: this nothing to gloat or smirk about... Stanford not immune or above it all

ND - washingtonismoney - 08-21-2016

Some decisions made:

Redfield was slated to be a starter, and Butler important depth at corner, so it's not great for ND as a team. Supposedly not a ton of depth at safety as well.

Kelly's moves.... Redfield kicked off, Butler Suspended indefinitely - FrankO - 08-21-2016

more to come... from both ND on the other 4, and the justice system/courts on all 6

given that Redfield kicked out of ND, he must have been the 'owner' of the unregistered and loaded gun.

h-u-g-e hit to ND's depth at Safety in particular... and overall to its defensive backfield depth...

what were they thinking... that they were somehow immune?

Yeah, somehow you'd get the impression that they didn't think that any rules apply to them!!!  >:(

Are you Catholic, or do you just have some special insight into how Catholics should conduct themselves?

Let's just say I became an atheist while going through the Catholic confirmation deal when I was 14, and leave it at that.  My point is I thought part of the Catholic religion is suppose to be about forgiveness.  ND fans don't sound very forgiving or even like they have any empathy for the young men involved in the car incident.

The Catholic confirmation deal.  Never really thought of it as a deal.  So while you were going through it, you decided there was no god, period?

It is amusing reading the opinion of someone who categorically rejects Catholicism yet haughtily condemns others who don't practice it His way -- as an atheist, putting yourself in the creator's place, of course...

I'm confused.  If one were to follow Catholicism, wouldn't the whole point be to practice it His way?

Also, shouldn't "Creator", as you use it in the final sentence, be capitalized?  Just trying to help.  :)

Maybe this board needs a prohibition on more than just politics...

Amen!

College students are still somewhat immature and make mistakes (and so do those of us who are, shall we say, exceedingly mature).  Thankfully, this mistake didn't wind up with anyone physically hurt.

Forgiveness & consequences can co-exist.  The more serious the offense, the more serious the consequence, even for a first-time offense.

I haven't looked in detail at the public statements, but it sounds to me like the incident by the players should be on their shoulders, not the school's (nor the team's nor the law enforcement agency's).  It seems like the school has taken appropriate actions to deal with the situation.  I believe the school had no particular reason to suspect this situation might happen.  When it did happen, the institution acted quickly to indicate the situation was not acceptable.

This is a far cry from other incidents that come to mind where we believe a school (and law enforcement in some cases) was aware of situations and didn't act responsibly, allowing those situations to reoccur.  In those incidents, there were victims.

Re: ND making its Fulmer Cup move - BostonCard - 08-21-2016

What do we think the reaction by the school would have been had this happened to ALabama students? Or Florida State?  Or Baylor *rimshot*?

Every culture has its topics that are not appropriate for conversation with relative strangers. In the US, those topics are religion and politics. I won't put a full ban on religion just yet, but I will ask you to refrain from:

1. Proselytizing
2. Casting aspersions or calling names based on religion. (see above)
3. Anything that could be perceived as harassment by a reasonable person.

Hey...all is fair when it comes to the South Bendovers.

Re: ND making its Fulmer Cup move - yvonne - 08-21-2016

I don't care about what you say about players at the school in Indiana. I do care about how members treat one another in here.

Yvonne for president! (wait, is that politics? I didn't specify president of what, and it was lower case...)  :P

I've always preferred "Emperor." Probably reflects my toga party past.

I am going to wait until the consequences are handed down before I decide whether they acted appropriately.  All of those players need to sit for some period of time, and the one who assaulted a cop and whomever actually had the gun should sit for the season.

Fumbling their Fulmer Cup opportunity: - Redrum - 08-22-2016

So far...presumptive starter at safety Redfield...gone! Kicked out.  (Groan from Fulmer fans)
CB Devin Butler-- who punched a cop in an altercation outside a bar...suspension, pending injury report on remaining CBs as season goes on.
Other four:  A stern talking-to and internal disciplinary action

Re: ND making its Fulmer Cup move - OutsiderFan - 08-22-2016

For those of you always on the look out for the next USB schadenfreude experience, reddit has you covered!

This past weekend's antics by half a dozen USB footballers have put a previously scoreless Irish on the cusp of claiming the 2016 title. They've vaulted passed Top-10 SEC powerhouses Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia in just one weekend, proving the new brand of recruits Kelly has brought in can strike quickly.  Just like ND has come back against the odds to defeat Stanford in South Bend the last two times the Cardinal have travelled there, perhaps the Irish can get some help from the officials and eke out victory from the jaws of defeat before the final gun?
