To be fair, he didn't call Martyup stupid, he said ranking purely by losses is stupid. Which it is. That is an argument that everyone I know who is a Stanford fan (and I think everyone on this board) makes every year when we yell about cupcake schedules and how many power 5 teams we play and such.

Exactly, does literally anyone on this board think that ASU should be ranked right now? Or that Washington (or any other 4-0 team) should be above us? You can't just look at record, you have to look at everything else, and if you do that with Ole Miss then you realize that they're actually quite good and have just played a ridiculously hard schedule so far. Giving credit for that is the way it should work!
As for Georgia, they shouldn't have been ranked last week and shouldn't be ranked this week. I wasn't defending polls in general, there's a lot of problems with them, but if you're going to critique them then "this team has X losses, how are they ranked!!!" is just about the worst possible critique. It matters how and to whom they lost, or in Georgia's case won.

Nobody is arguing about what you said. People are just pointing out that you could be a touch more diplomatic in how you say it. Here, try this instead.
"I know that Ole Miss is only 2-2, but that #16 ranking is completely deserved; their two losses are against Alabama and Florida State, the #1 and #12 ranked teams, respectively, and they just dismantled Georgia (now #25). Given the strength of the schedule, and how well they played (remember, they led Alabama at halftime and only lost by 5 points), it is entirely reasonable to have them ranked despite their two losses."
I think if you make your case without insinuating that folks who don't agree with you are "stupid", you won't get attitude in return. But I'm not an admin here, so feel free to ignore what I say.

You should be in love with Wilner's rankings right now.
He ranks two loss Mississippi, UCLA.
Doesn't rank UGa. Doesn't rank ASU.

Mississippi is very good, and incredibly lethal. If Washington deserves to be in the top ten, Mississippi more than deserves their spot. I think they would dismantle the Huskies.

Every single time I've called something stupid on here people get uppity about the wording choice then
don't actually argue against me. Rating purely by wins
IS STUPID. Everyone in this thread has agreed with that. There's no defense of it at all. If using plain words to describe plain truths bothers you, I don't know what to say.

Utah saw a nice jump this week in the AP poll, from 24 to 18. I know it's early, but Utah in the Pac-12 title game might be our best remaining opportunity to get a quality win before the playoff matchups are decided. Still have a lot of good teams to play, but they get Washington and Oregon at home. It'll be interesting to see how they play at C.al this weekend.
Also, ASU is 26th, as it's the first team listed in "others receiving votes" with 135 points, just 7 back of #25 Georgia. They'll have to beat SC in the Coliseum to get ranked, though.
Colorado also got some votes this week, going from 0 points to 33, for basically a #31 ranking.
UCLA was the only other conference team to get votes, but dropped from 74 points to 22. But if the Bruins win their next three (vs. ARIZ, @ ASU, @ Wazzu), they should be ranked going into their game against Utah in the Rose Bowl. As others have noted here, it's a little ridiculous to say that a team is no longer a Top 25-caliber team when it has lost two games to Top 10 teams. If UCLA continues to lose, then sure. But right now? They're 2-2 with the two losses being incredibly hard-fought games to really good teams. Isn't that what you'd expect from, say, the 20th-best team in the country? Oh well. They'll have their chance to get back up there in the rankings.Â
