Re: WVB: John Dunning retires - paloalto - 01-16-2017

There is a rumor about a Dunning replacement started on another website by a poster with a short track record so it is hard to tell how much weight to give it.  He says it is a done deal.

The coach is Hugh MuCutcheon.  The following is his salary at Minnesota.  Does WVB at Stanford have the weight to offer a comparable contract?

"Women's volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon received his first contract through Dec. 31, 2018, with a base salary of $150,000. McCutcheon will receive $50,000 in supplemental salary and $40,000 as long as he remains the coach for the entire year, giving him pay of $240,000 annually."  Mar 6, 2013

BTW, it is my opinion there could not be a better choice to take over the program.

I know nothing about how well McCutcheon coaches other than Minnesota's success this year, but I was impressed in his post-semifinal press conference by his personality/manner/thoughtfulness/way of speaking. Does not seem like for the players it would be a very difficult transition from Dunning in that respect. I wouldn't want to get caught wearing Stanford gear near anyone who cares a lot about Minn. volleyball if we end up taking both the semifinal match and their coach from them!

For many sports fans, our introduction to McCutcheon was his time as coach of the gold medal winning Olympic men's VB team in 2008.  It was a story of personal tragedy in the middle of professional triumph.

Re: WVB: John Dunning retires - BobK - 01-16-2017

Coming to Stanford Hugh  would get a big raise it seems

Re: WVB: John Dunning retires - ca245 - 01-16-2017

According to a story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Hugh signed an extension last December that will pay him $450,000/yr plus bonuses.

Re: WVB: John Dunning retires - paloalto - 01-17-2017

The rumor about Hugh turned out to be false.  A long time Minnesota poster said he is staying at Minnesota.  This poster is a reliable source for Minnesota volleyball.

Re: WVB: John Dunning retires - BobK - 01-17-2017

Looks like 2018 Brooke Nuneviller is a Stanford commit.  Per her Bio as Arizona Gatorade POY.    She will most likely be an libero.  Still to be admitted of course.

Sorry fake news.  Per her family

Re: WVB: John Dunning retires - fullmetal - 01-17-2017

I gather the recruiting class for Stanford will more or less remain intact despite Dunning's departure?

Re: WVB: John Dunning retires - BobK - 01-17-2017

This is someone we want but for the 2018 class not a signee.

In any case fake news.  Her Bio was not correct about a commit per her family.

But maybe some day

Re: WVB: John Dunning retires - paloalto - 01-19-2017

Yeah, it was the fault of the author of the article, not the recruit.

I haven't heard anything about which coaches are being interviewed to replace Dunning.  Anyone heard anything?
