Hopefully the plan is that she wants to get outside coaching experience before coming back to Stanford when Tara retires. It would bolster her credibility as a hire and give her some head coaching experience. But by all accounts, we should absolutely want her back when the time comes, and hopefully she will feel the same.
Also: if she does leave for a head coaching job, that, in my mind, quashes any concerns about an imminent Tara retirement. Kate wouldn't leave at this point if Tara were only planning on staying for one or two more seasons.

Curt Miller also interviewed.

Tonya Cardoza had interview but according to Twitter no longer under consideration

If UW is also serious about interviewing Kate, they need to get their act together and move quickly.

This came on right after "Cliff Superfan" and it certainly doesn't sound like she's ready to stop coaching anytime soon. Makes me happy.

It seems that she is interviewing at both U SC and Washington. Certainly testing the waters. I wonder if she is looking outside the Pac 12 or if she is committed to staying on the west coast. It would be weird playing against her twice or three times a year. CTTwas not quite as much a product of the Tara system as Kate is. It would be a little more like Charmin Smith but as a head coach.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone think we have had a better asst coach than Kate?

Loree Payne is no longer a candidate for the UW job - she's moving up to Div. I to be HC at Northern Arizona.

Strange move given how good Oregon is likely to be over the next few years. I had never heard of GCU, but it is apparently a "for-profit Christian research university," which would seem to contain multiple contradictions within a single sentence. In any case, hopefully they have a good basketball team, and the very best to Powell.

Grand Canyon is actually a very interesting case, they are the only for-profit institution in Division I and have generated some controversy as a result; the Pac-12 (apparently driven by Arizona State) submitted a request that the NCAA review whether for-profit universities should be permitted to compete in Division I.
Grand Canyon clearly has ambitious athletic plans and the resources to be competitive. The men's coach is former Suns icon Dan Majerle, and that program went 22-9 (11-3 in the WAC) after moving up to Division I only three years ago, so I can see this being a good opportunity for Nicole Powell to make her name as the head coach of an up and coming program on the women's side.

Wait a minute... You're telling me that Stanford isn't for-profit? ??? Then why exactly did they want to gouge me for an additional $1000 to sit in the same football seat I've been sitting in for decades...? >:( Seems to me that would have been a tidy little profit if I hadn't decided to move to the sunny side... ;D

A for-profit university has every incentive to lower admissions standards in order to become a factory in whatever field they want to dominate. A for-profit research university sounds like a tax-sheltered R&D arm of every big pharma/engineering firm in existence, given the right IP and $$$ structure. Stinks like hákarl.

It's interesting that both the USC and Washington openings seem to be taking a lot of time to fill, with a series of denials leaking out from the rumored frontrunners. For a couple of days, I wondered if Kate Paye was holding up the hiring process for both schools. With her public statement that she's staying at Stanford, I thought that that might also mean that both schools had made decisions. Instead, more denials are leaking out.
I suppose one potential theory is that both programs are more of a dumpster fire than I had realized. The USC program was certainly in turmoil over the past couple of years. On the other hand, there's great support for women's basketball in Seattle and the program really turned around under Neighbors even though he seemed to recruit very poorly locally. An incoming coach to either program would likely want some assurances that he/she was going to be given sufficient time to bring in the recruits necessary to compete in the upper half of the conference.
