I have always been a fan of The Who's version, which isn't really related but it's got a jew's harp and that has to be worth something.

Does the band really not do the incredible Arthur Barnes post-JFK assassination version of the National Anthem any more?  If this is true, what a pity.......

They do it, but not well.

The trumpeter usually isn't very good, and is miked and amplified to ear-bleed level. Then when the trumpet drops out, the quiet section that follows is near inaudible by contrast.

I like it...

They did it well last year before the USC game. But I'm probably biased...

As a Fremont alumnus, I feel compelled to correct you. When played by Fremont, the song is “On, Fremont, On”

Of course that was in the old days when the mascot for both Fremont and Stanford was the Indian.

But how’s that for continuity? I cheered for the same mascot, wore the same colors and boogied to the same fight song for 8 straight years in school. 😎

Cut the band some rebuilding slack this year ... the administration took it's best shot LAST year and but for the intervention of my now favorite provost the wounds would have been fatal.  As it is, the recovery isn't complete.

If you like good music, all the old standards and want to miss the football floor shows come watch the much smaller, hand picked group that plays at men's basketball games.  I love them even when I was wincing at what happened to the rest of Montgomery's legacy.

In Haase we trust ...

I was at ESPN's headquarters in Bristol this past Sunday and they have a touchscreen outside the cafeteria that will play the fight song of your alma mater.  For Stanford, it plays Come Join the Band.  I had no idea what it was until reading this thread.  I guess it has been too long since I have been to a home game.

Notre Dame's band always plays the school song for the visitor, and they also play Come Join the Band
