That O-Line looks really bad . . . makes our concerns earlier this year quite minor in comparison.  Of course, hope those concerns continue to fade into the rear view mirror

I will be interested to see if they  start giving him the ball more. I don't know how closely you have followed his season or for that matter Carolina. But a couple of points: first, they are significantly better offense of play with him on the field. It opens up other things. Second, they have for years been a team that is A power running team the throws the ball down field. One of the reasons they drafted McCaffrey was  to take some pressure off newton having to run etc.

The only running back besides  McCaffrey that gets appreciable snaps is Stewart. He's carried it something like 26 times for 26 yards the last two games.  so it's not as if there is anybody on the team that is making yards as a running back. I don't care who you are when the defensive line is getting almost two yards in the backfield on everyone and play you are not going to be able to successfully run the football.

Finally, he is drawing a lot of attention defensively.  That is not because hes not seen as a threat. Just the opposite. And it's opened up a lot of other things for Carolina.

Success for skill position players in the NFL is in part about circumstances. Look at Jared Goff.  After last season people were ready to call a bust. Then the  rams get an offensive line, add a skill position players or two and  not only Goff but Gurley all of a sudden look a whole lot better.

What does it take to “break out?” He is second in the NFL in receptions as a rookie behind only AB. His extrapolated 16 game stats would be 99rec for 800 yards, ~6 TD, and 300 rush yds.  I’d call that a breakout rookie season, though admittedly not in the fashion all of us anticipated. It’s not his fault that his team has a poor Oline with a non QBs averaging fewer then 3 ypc.

I hope that CMac’s NFL usage convinces Bryce Love to return for a year to develop a receiving game and enhance his draft stock.

Fair points all. But the other side of the coin is that he's a RB who just got his 100th rushing yard 6 games into the season. His touches in the run game have also dropped steadily, as has his YPC. We can complain that it's not his fault and the OLine stinks, but the Panthers are still running the ball, just with a different back. Yes,he's heavily used in the passing game, but 7.9 yards per catch isn't really setting the world on fire. And he hasn't had any real explosive plays except for on 37 yard catch against the Saints, who everyone seems to have a big game against.

In the end, perhaps it's a qualitative measure. I haven't seen anything from him that makes him must see viewing for the little time I have for the NFL. Other people may take more pleasure from watching him catch 5-15 yard check down receptions than I do or have more time for football viewing.

To me, Cmac’s career so far bears some resemblance to when Reggie Bush first entered to N.F.L. More success as a receiver and returner than a runner.

Bush 1st year: 155 rushes, 565 yards (3.6/carry); 88 receptions, 742 yards (8.4/rec); 28 punt returns, 216 yards, ( 7.7/PR)

McCaffrey. 38 rushes, 108 yards (2.7/carry); 37 receptions, 293 yards (7.9/rec); 15 punt returns, 113 yards(7.5/PR)

Too early to predict how CMac’s career will develop, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Reggie Bush resemblance. Maybe not surprising, as they were often compared in college as well (multiple ways to impact game, elusiveness, vision, speed, etc)

And last but not least, a new coach.  (With today's win at Jacksonville, the Rams have now matched last season's win total).

I just noticed CMAC's brother Max (from Duke) is on the the Jaguars' roster. He only plays on special teams at this point, but at least he made it into the league.
