Also he was 3-1 as a player and 2-2 as an assistant, so he's been a part of 11 wins -- not counting his time when he was merely Willie Shaw's son.

A Stanford win would break the record for the longest streak of consecutive Big Game wins.

Stanford has twice (1995-2001 / 2010-current) won seven straight.

Cal's longest win streak over Stanford is five (1919-1923 / 2002-2006). The Bears went 6-0-2 between 1947-1954).

Yeah, I phrased it pretty poorly. Here's what will happen with a Big Game win:
I just think it's fitting that Cal is the team he will have the opportunity to break the overall record against.

It certainly makes it all the cooler.  This is a big Big Game.  A Bigger Game, if you will.

I was wrong.  Shaw has figured out a way.

That's the interesting and impressive thing.  Getting to 72 wins at a school shouldn't be that hard.  Average seven wins a year over ten years.  But would any coach that averages seven wins a year last ten years anymore, and at Stanford would any coach that averages ten plus wins a year as Shaw has, stay as long as he has?  As others have said in the thread, Shaw staying when so successful is the biggest thing.

Shaw and Pop Warner have very similar records:

................Record...... Pct. ....Seasons...Conf. Championships
Shaw........71-20...... .780......... 6+ ............ 3
Warner.....71-17-8... .781......... 9............... 3
