I suppose the series gives Stanford some TV exposure they wouldn't otherwise get...

It helped that the Apple Cup was a blowout. People started switching from the Apple cup to
our game after the first half hour. The Stanford-ND audience grew as the Washington audience declined, eventually by more than a million. The audience was at it's peak when Stanford took control of the game.

No doubt it helped that the Stanford game was more competitive, but ratings were far higher from the start.
5:00-5:30: Stan/ND 4.27 million, UW/WSU 2.62 million
5:30-6:00: Stan/ND 4.63 million, UW/WSU 1.97 million

Question: Why does the No.tre D.ame at SoKal or at Stanford game *have* to be the last regular season game of the year? What determines that?
ND gets what ND wants.
You know, except wins!

My $0.02 - Stanford and U.SC should band together to pressure N.D to move their California game to September, week 2 or 3. Stanford and U.SC would still likely play a conference opponent on Thanksgiving weekend the week after the rivalry game. But it would avoid the common situation where the N.D game is both significant (for national rankings and playoffs) and meaningless (for the conference standings) at the same time.

I think it would require the PAC-12 to dictate that member schools cannot schedule OOC games after week 10 or something like that. USC/Stanfords yearly thanksgiving Notre Dame matchup really does screw the conference over and makes scheduling much more difficult.
Truth be told, its time for Notre Dame to just join the friggin ACC or (BigTen). They are not special and they should quit acting like they are. One of the best parts of beating their butt is that we probably denied them a NY6 bowl game. I love the game because I love putting those smug sons of b****es in their place.

Re-watching the game. Still upset about officiating. How about that crazy gift yardafter a 3rd-down play that appeared clearly to come up short. Even an N,D, commentator admits an obvious hold by N,D, against Phillips on one of the long TDs:

God was it amazing when all of their loud, smug, "diehard" fans started leaving with 10 minutes left in the 4th. I'd definitely miss that if we drop them.
Note: I don't think anything will change any time soon. I'm pretty sure it'll take ND going 11-1 and missing out on the playoff for them to join a conference, which is what it would take to end their independence.

To be fair to those fans, there were many points in the game that they were louder than our fans.
And I know some decent Notre Dame fans (including one who visited this board). But the fan base exudes a sense of entitlement, so happy when it backfires.

From where I was sitting they were never louder than we were in comparable situations. They were entirely too loud, to be sure, but don't sell us short.

I'm in favor of conference schedule that requires all OOC games AND bye weeks completed by the end of October. Last 4 games should be all in conference and no byes.
