Re: OT: karma points - Leftcoast - 11-26-2017

If national trends apply 75% of Cardboard access is through mobile devices but karma voting is a PC only option.  Thus, karma points are a game played by a decreasingly significant number of readers and scoring gives an outsized voice to a small group of PC based readers.

If it helps identify trolls quickly then it remains useful.  If it's used to shame outliers or opinions disliked by an increasingly small demographic then trash can it.

I trust the instincts of our webmistress here.

Just as a test, mind you, I just downvoted you w/ my mobile device.  I will upvote you later, because I don't feel strongly, one way or the other.  ;D

Re: OT: karma points - Leftcoast - 11-26-2017

Vote away!  But share how you do it - I don't see an option using Safari and the standard mobile page.  Are you launching the non mobile site?

(Somehow my Karma is up 2 pts since I looked at it earlier.)

Android Chrome has a "request desktop site" checkbox on the menu. I believe Safari has something similar. That will get you the full layout that includes the +/- buttons.

Re: OT: karma points - Leftcoast - 11-26-2017

It doesn't work as expected with IOS and Safari.  When you tap and hold the refresh icon in the address bar the "Request Desktop site" option appears but the new page still doesn't have the up/down voting arrows.

Oh well, this may be better for all involved. What if I like Duke basketball, Internet cat videos, football teams named after condom manufacturers and cuddly b.ears named Oski?  Where would the Cardboard be then?

Re: OT: karma points - CornFed - 11-26-2017

On my Android w/ Chrome, if I hold it in portrait position I cannot see the up/down icons.  If I hold it landscape I can.  Maybe you just haven't thought to try it in landscape.

Re: OT: karma points - Leftcoast - 11-27-2017

Nah  .... Must be an IOS thing.  The +/- boxes aren't rendered in either portrait or landscape mode on my IPhone 6 running IOS 10.3.3.    (Yeah, I haven't updated to 11 yet.)  /Lefty

There are three formats the CardBoard uses, normally depending on your screen width. You can see all three on a desktop machine by making your window narrower and narrower. On Android the "request desktop site" checkbox (somehow) causes the widest layout to be used even on a phone. I don't have an iPhone to test with, but it sounds like somehow that's just not working there.

Re: OT: karma points - Leftcoast - 11-27-2017

Cool info!  Yes, I am seeing the middle sized format (which doesn't have the +/- boxes) on on my Iphone and not the widest version.

The boxes show on an iPad running safari on iOS (no desktop site requested)

Can we trade them for United miles?

Or Pan Am.

They're still running in the alternate universe of Blade Runner 2047 so I'd take 'em.

Re: OT: karma points - Goose - 11-27-2017

I had tons of TWA miles. They became American miles, so you can't trade for them as such, and they still have some value if you can stand flying on American. However, I would be glad to gift you my PAN AM miles, if I could find a web site to do it.  :)

Many moons ago, I had an apartment next door to a former TWA flight attendant. She claimed that on the morning flights, she loved asking men if they'd like some "TWA coffee or some TWA tea". She was a lot of fun. . . .

Re: OT: karma points - jacketree - 11-27-2017

Plenty of miles available here....

Damn, I must be stupid or too tired because I don't get the joke.  :-\

Spell out "TWA tea" (TWA T)

Re: OT: karma points - Phogge - 11-27-2017

A NYC DP friend married three TWA stews, not at the same time. Traveled a lot for American Sportsman. They were all hot.
