Stanford rolling all over Texas, taking Set #2 25-21 to take a 2-0 lead. Texas had to run off four straight points to make the final scoreline look a bit more respectable.

It is a fun team to watch. I miss Inky but these youngsters are continuing to do a terrific job. Plummer and Hentz are both so exciting to watch. Jenna Gray, Fitzmorris and Lutz all seem like old hands. Nice to see two new faces with Alade and McClure. Anybody else ever play?

Utterly dominant performance, as Stanford trounces Texas in straight sets. 25-21 in all three to return to the Final Four.

So that's top 4 finishes in 5 fall sports this year.Â
Women's Cross-Country 4th placeÂ
Men's Cross-Country 4th placeÂ
Women's Soccer championsÂ
Men's Soccer College Cup finalistsÂ
Women's Volleyball semifinalistsÂ
With men's soccer and women's volleyball still alive, of course.

Especially wonderful for Jenna Gray and Audriana Fitzmorris who get to go home for the Final Four in Kansas City.

Formico plays a lot as a DS. Sidney Wilson comes in sometimes as a serving sub. McClure beat out Michaela Keefe as OH2, but they used to alternate a fair amount. Bowen comes in on rare occasions as a blocking sub for McClure.

The match is available on Watch ESPN and ESPNU will show slightly edited replay on Sunday at 4:30 Pacific. The online replay includes the pizza party in the locker room after the game. Good to see the team having fun.

Congrats to our ladies. A good match, and somewhat easier than Friday night.
I was at the game, and now am watching the TiVo. The TV announcers made a big deal of two calls in set 1. At 18-16 and 22-18 in the first set are calls for an illegal attack while the other is for an illegal block respectively. One thing I notice that the announcers don't seem to is that the antennas are NOT directly over then net. The near one (near the up referee) is (entirely?) on the Texas side of the net while the far one is (entirely) on the Stanford side of the net. I don't see that the NCAA WVB rules require it to be above the net. The antennae seem intended to be used only for the sideline out of bounds and not to be used to judge whether something is above the net. The TV announcers seem to be using the antenna and not the net to determine if the ball was over the net.
On the first call, I certainly disagree with the announcers and believe that the ball is not over the net. The Texas players arms are clearly across the net and her palms are vertical, preventing any part of the ball from reaching the plane of the net. That is consistent with the call (illegal attack). To me, the replay would confirm the call.
I'm less certain about the second call. The call implies that Plummer's attack was legal, meaning that the ball was over the net when she first made contact. To me, the replay would be inconclusive. (The broadcast shows a still that is later than the first contact. You have to go back to the slow/stepped motion to see the first contact. In the last frame before contact, the ball is moving toward Plummer and is possibly (but not certainly) over the net.)
I have to say I was not happy with the lack of sportsmanship shown by the UT cheer squad. Consistently, they would be about 10 feet from our server and using their megaphones to yell at her as she is serving. They should not be allowed to use their privileged position at the edge of the court and privileged equipment to disrupt the opponent.  They did not do this when it was their own player serving in front of them. Clearly, they were not cheering for their team.

MT - on the calls, I was thinking the same thing as you. The camera angle distorted the replay accuracy significantly. I think the announcers just weren't thinking of that aspect.
The tv camera picked up the UT cheer squad heckling our server and I wondered how common that is. I was also surprised by how big a pep band UT brought. At least they're showing WVB strong support. But the heckling did seem out of line.

I like Kate Formico a lot. She has soft hands, decent quickness, good hand eye coordination. Very good passer. She received a lot of playing time as a freshman, that tells you something.
At this level, winners are determined by the team that makes the fewest mistakes. Stanford had it all over Texas in that regard.

In addition to her 6 kills, the box score shows McClure with 14 digs last night, second only to Hentz.

The Texas cheer squad cheered their servers but they used their megaphones & privileged place by the court to try to disrupt their opponents. When we served from the same endline but the other side, the cheerleaders were again pointing their megaphones at our server.
NCAA volleyball rules
Quote:19.2.6.1 Cheerleaders may use nonelectronic megaphones in a nondisruptive manner. Fans are permitted to use nonelectronic megaphones for voice amplification only.
Quote:Cheerleaders, Bands and Official Team Mascot. Cheerleaders and official team mascots may be in nonplaying areas on their teams portion of the facility or in spectator seating at any time. During play, the designated area for cheerleaders and official team mascots is on their own teams portion of the playing area, beyond the sideline opposite the team bench or beyond the end line. They must be at least 2 meters (6 feet, 6 inches) from the court, or farther if the facility allows. During timeouts and between sets, cheerleaders and official team mascots may be on their teams playing area or anywhere in the free zone on the first referees side of the court. Note: For NCAA championship play, cheerleaders and mascots may be instructed by the tournament committee to remain on one side of the court throughout a match. However, cheerleaders and mascots must not interfere with the opponents at any time.
