I wasn't, Bob. I said "for the first time in years," not "for the first time in decades." I was happy happy happy [in the Rittman years] and I am happy happy happy now.  :) :) :)

John was the coach just 4 years ago. That’s why I asked.    Years is relative. To Phogge and me it’s trivia from the 1950s

Great you are also excited Cred.

Rittman won, but he also committed NCAA violations, got hit with a show-cause analysis, and his actions left a divided team in his wake and resulted in pretty much everyone declining the Stanford job leading to Hansen.  I don't know how anyone could be happy with Rittman.

That's such a small part of the story BC, but I'm not going to rehash.  Except a violation and remember John's a Head Coach at Clemson

Oh boy do I disagree with you BC but it's an dead subject.  They declined because John got screwed as Card 15 and I well know.

All true. I should have been clear that I was speaking strictly in terms of Rittman's on-the-field competence as a coach. Sorry to have been overly brief in my remarks.

Re: Expectations for the SB team - BostonCard - 02-06-2018

Clemson is neither here nor there.  Chip Kelly was hit with a show-cause and is now the head coach at UCLA.  I'm sure someone will eventually hire Rick Pitino, and maybe even Art Briles will be hired.  It says more about the pressure to win than it does the integrity of the coaches.

Ultimately, the question is: did Rittman commit NCAA violations?  Was Stanford hit with its first major NCAA findings?  Is that something we want?  Do we want to be just another NCAA program with all the violations and corruption that goes with it, and accept sanctions as just another cost of winning or do we aspire to more than that?  John may have gotten screwed, but he also screwed himself, unless you are alleging he did not do what he was found (by the NCAA) to have done.

A violation yes.  Then his boss the overseer his a great job.
A single violation. Not plural.

And it didn’t kill us in 1941 and hasn’t hurt the school now.

Hey 2 days until the new season let’s be happy

AMEN. Let's move forward.

Bob, considering that we've just lost two outstanding defensive players in Noll and Sorenson, I'd be interested in knowing the basis of your belief that the D will be better this year.

We have great young talent in a strong sophomore class, and more importantly, we now have a coaching staff that can actually teach our young players how to play defense. While we will undoubtedly miss Bessie and Kylie, and not be able to replace their level of production, I think the overall defense as a whole will be better than the overall defense last year. While we started strong on defense in the first half of Pac-12 play, we ended up actually with only a .965 fielding percentage in conference play, which was middle of the pack. In particular, I think continued development of defense at 3B could really improve this year's D.

Trivia BobbbbbbbbbbbbbK - Phogge - 02-06-2018

I'm sure Bobbbbbbb that if you were standing on the wall of the Alamo next to Davey or Travis that you would be grinning and singing a Disney tune. Hope your optimism bears fruit pal.

Question: Big Rec was and is a baseball venue. But it also was the site of the old SF MId-winter Fair and a tent city after the earthquake. What military function was regularly held there?
