I am not sure we can conclude much from who plays where and when in the spring, especially when we are talking about a unit that is supposed to be pretty good. It may be that they felt Hall didn't need the reps, as he has played quite a bit, but that Sarell did need some reps.

You could say that about the first half of Spring, when Sarell was getting reps at OG.  I don't think the same holds true in the second half, when preparing for the Spring Game.

While the Spring Game doesn't mean much, you can bet yer ass the coaches want the starting OL to get as many reps together as possible. Sarell is a better OT than A.T. Hall, but that doesn't mean Hall is inadequate if Sarell is unavailable.  But it also seems Hamilton is probably ahead of Hall at RT as well, thus Hall getting extra OL reps.

I thought they might see if Sarell could be moved to Guard, but given he did get some reps there in the first half, and he's now at #1 RT, that would seem to be his best position.  It may also be true that Fanaika has upped his game a bit. Wilson is a great blocker, but he just isn't big enough to have a starting Guard spot at his lined 280.

Stanford will play Little, Herbig, Burkett, Fanaika, Sarell, Hamilton, Hall, Wilson, and probably Chaffin during most games, at minimum.  Maybe Hattis, Dreyer, Maihen, and Powell might get some reps in the blowout against UC Davis and others.

All this talk of the offensive line makes me hope for the return of this formation.

Any word on how TEs are developing and blocking? What I want to see is creative use of dual threat players to create brobdingnagian defensive mismatches. A grouping of QB, Love, 5 O-lineman; JJAW, Parkinson, Smith, and Harrington could be amazing to see. Defense comes out in base or nickel? Shift to jumbo or a run biased formation with JJAW and Parkinson out wide. They either commit safety help and we run or they leave both one on one with little corners for an easy mismatch.

They come out in a heavy D set? Split out 4 or 5 wide and have fun.

As much as I have advocated for Fisk to move to the defensive line (coupled with Lance Anderson's continual statements that they are working on that process), Shaw is hesitant to do that because of Fisk's demonstrated prowess at tight end.  Observing Number 88 last Saturday, I was impressed with his speed, soft hands and what Shaw really likes, the straight ahead blocking ability.  Those thick, defensive lineman legs provide great point of attack driving force.  Of course, you have to like 270 pound tight ends to accept this.
