And a bunch of second place finishes. Most to the Dodgers.

After yet another 0 or 1 run offensive dud, the bring their record to an incredible TEN out of 18 games scoring 1 or fewer runs, Hunter Pence is being put on the DL and Williamson called up.  If Mac hits even his weight, he probably becomes the starting LF.  Pence? Don't see him as more valuable than Blanco or even Hernandez at this point as a 5th OF, so probably looking at being DFA'd.

the Dodgers finished first in the league or division 33 times, the Giants 26.

The Dodgers finished second in the league or division 28 times, the Giants 31.

The Dodgers have finished 3rd or worse

Both the Dodgers and the Giants have won 23 pennants.

Collectively in the major leagues, Giants are second in HRs (yanks first) with 14,398, Dodgers are 12th with 12,508.

Dodgers are first in MLB in historical ERA at 3.53, Giants, often vilified for their pitching, are second at 3.56.

Giants have 57 hall of famers, Dodgers have 50.

The Giants have won eight world series, the Dodgers have won six

Bob, what would you be willing to wager me on a bet that the Giants will not see .500 the rest of the season?

Re: Giants now worse than 2017? - BobK - 04-20-2018

2 martinis at Fleming’s or Sundance or By the Sea.  3 great options. 😀

Re: Giants now worse than 2017? - Phogge - 04-20-2018

OF, Bobbbbbbb Is charmed. I would not bet against him. That said, his favorite Seal was Eddie Sadowski so he obviously likes the underdog.

Yer on! Just to be clear, if Giants reach .500 again in 2018, I buy at Sundance.

A deal outsider.

JK, Bobbbbb. I knew that. Mine too. Plus he would talk to us between innings sometimes. You remember how close we were in the Emerson TV bleachers.

Other faves: Al Lyons, Jimmie Moran, Gene Bearden.
Opponents: Luke Easter, Piper Davis.

Going to Seals S much more fun than CP and PAC Bell.

Early season stats are fun.  One or two hits could make a hundred-point difference.  If Panda had two more hits he'd be at .300 instead of .200, LOL.

The other day Bochy started Blanco and Hernandez.  I started to roll my eyes and then saw that the top two hitters on the club right now are.....Blanco (.370) and Hernandez (.316).

While Panik started well, Crawford does not look good at the plate.  .228 and 18 whiffs in only 57 ABs.  Basically on track for almost 200 whiffs unless he starts seeing the ball better.  He had a couple of nice years back in 2015-16 but in reality he's a career .248 hitter and should never be higher in the order than 7th or 8th.  Of course, anything from him on offense is a bonus.

It's too bad, but it sure looks like Pence may be done.  And a weird injury did it.  When he was healthy, he was the "glue guy" in the lineup.

Gene Bearden yes frank Kellert Love his batting stance.  Moran yes. Frank Kalin.  Ah so many but Leo The Cat Kiely way up there

Re: Giants now worse than 2017? - wallendar - 04-20-2018

Pence has earned the right to remain with SF for the duration of the season.  I would be very unhappy if they cut him loose before every game is played.

Although I am not a betting person, if I were to select a choice between hitting .500 at some point during the season or not, I would say they will.  Obviously, the problem to date has been the sleepy bats; however, it is important to remember that their schedule was front loaded.  Let’s see what happens when they start playing teams that wrote off the season before it began.....

Re: Giants now worse than 2017? - Mick - 04-20-2018

The much vilified Aaron Rowand would be 4th on the team in OPS right, instead of (drum roll) Evan Longoria, batting .220, but OPS at .729.

Other items of note:  Brandon Crawford has been first on the team two years in a row in RBIs, and was 2nd in 2015.
Two starters batting over .255.  Three starters batting over .230.  Only three starters have OBP over .254.  Yikes.

3 HRs including one by Williamson and the ND WR is back

After that game, the Giants have some pop.  With 19 HRs in 19 games, they are one under the league average for HRs and on a pace for 162.  Still, they're second to last in the league in doubles, triples and most importantly, runs scored.  Hopefully Williamson can coalesce the Giants' bats.  Everyone got a hit last night except their two leading hitters, Panik and Posey.

Fielding, Giants are 4th in the league, tied for third in DPs.  In pitching, Giants are 4th in ERA and 6th in WHIP.  Not too shabby with their big starters out.  So let's give new pitching coach Young some credit.  They don't strike out many batters (12th in league), but they don't give up many HRs (2nd fewest) and they walk the third fewest.  Doing well, I'd say.

Williamson, a homer AND three K’s.

And, congratulations to Brandon Belt, who set the MLB record for longest AB.

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/23288953/brandon-belt-san-francisco-giants-sets-mlb-record-21-pitch-ab

21 pitches over the course of 12 min and 45 seconds. 16 fouled 2-strike pitches.
