Another good series by the defense.
ESPN's win prediction algorithm seems off. Before the game started, we had a 98.6% chance of winning. Now, I get we haven't played well, but we are into the second quarter with a TD lead and possession and the algorithm is giving us only a 97.2% chance of winning.

Devery Hamilton tweaked his knee in the 1st quarter and has not returned yet. Brandon Fanaika is playing LG.
Hamilton was Little's backup at LT too.

I'm astonished at how slow Costello is, and the difficulty that Irwin has in achieving any kind of separation.

Luck and Hogan were unusually athletic though.

I don't see Stanford getting any pressure on the Aggie QB when only rushing 4.

We aren't getting much pressure, but the QB is averaging 3.7 ypa against us, though he has been a bit better in this last series.

How can they let JJAW get mugged like that? WTF?

The defense has now gone 7 consecutive quarters without allowing a touchdown.

Not able to watch. Glad to hear the defense is holding up well.
Seems the offense *needs* Love (and JJAW - pray for his health) to be above average.
For reference, San Jose State put up 506 yards (and 38 points) against Davis.

Yeah, they got their first decent drive against us, but we were able to hold them.
Has anyone noticed Shaw hasn't been his usual conservative self offensively today. Going for it on fourth down, not running out the clock when we get the ball deep in our territory with just a few seconds remaining in the half, etc, etc.

Stanford 20 rushes for 60 yards in the 1H which includes 3 sacks on Costello. Davis has pressured Costello into numerous throwaways also to avoid a sack.
But the defense has been solid. Davis has yet to convert a 3rd down. They have 100 yards of total offense and 90 of those yards are passes to one person, Keelan Doss. Davis only ran 31 plays in the half. They average over 80 plays a game.

Pretty poor first half
1. KJ. Enough said. At least he recovered a bit in second quarter
2. Offensive line. I know they are a bit banged up. But this is supposed to be a deep and very strong unit. 2 1/2 games, they haven’t shown it.
3. Pass rush non existent
4. Another blown assignment onn a wide receiver screen. Why can’t they run those with any degree of success.
5. JJ Smith and Speights had pretty nice half’s.
These games are always hard. Because you almost expect them to score every time they have the ball and UC Davis to go three and out every time they have the ball. And of course the difference isn’t that vast. But there’s a big talent gap. And the mistakes Stanford made took this from a game that should be 24 or perhaps 31 to 3 to one in which the Aggies are still in it at half time.
One thing I’d really like to see Stanford do in the second half is pick the pace up on offense. Davis is usually a high tempo team as I understand it. But their coach, smartly I believe, has slowed the tempo down in this game. Why? Because he wants to cut down the number of possessions. He knows they can’t beat Stanford straight up so he hopes for some breaks minimize the possessions etc. Thus to counter that go uptempo for a while.
Shaw plays to the game. He is not the consistently conservative coach (i’m talking fourth down issue here) that people suggest. For example last week against SC he punted from the SC 34 yard line on fourth down. Seems kind of crazy until you realize it was fourth and 12 they were up two touchdowns and SC had not shown the ability to drive the length of the field.
Today he’s playing a team with inferior talent. Punting in those situations would’ve been a major victory for Davis. So you take your shot.

Yeah, the offensive line hasn't been able to open much for the run in the last two games, but at least they have been able to protect the passer.
Today they can't even do that.
The defense continues to be the strength of the team. Who'd have thunk it going into the season.

Nice defensive series; three and out and Davis tries the fake and we get the ball back in great field position.

At this pace, the #9 Cardinal will go into Eugene perhaps a 3TD dog.
Herbert is a big step up in Offensive fire power.
We might look like a Shot Puter in the 400 meters.
