I made a chart comparing scores and ranks between this year and last year for all 12 conference members over on r/Pac12.
I posted a screen capture of it above. Does this site have the ability to show charts using markup language?

Canalejas, not sure of the answer to your technical question, but well done in any event.
As the year unfolds maybe you could also do a similar presentation for the top 5 or top 10 in Cup standings?

Thanks, BigEasyCard!
Here is a similar chart showing last year's final Top 11 (all the schools that eclipsed 1,000 points.)
Something is seriously wrong in Westwood this year.

My impression is that the Big 10 schools (Penn St., Ohio St., Michigan) tend to fade in the spring, while Florida and UCLA will be stronger as time goes by. I haven't done the research to back up that impression, though.
Your impressions are correct. I consider Florida and UCLA to be Stanford's strongest competition.
Florida is the only other school besides Stanford to have finished in the top 10 every year. In fact, Florida has never finished lower than 7th. They've finished 2nd 5 times and 3rd 5 times. They've done this with far fewer sports than Stanford. They participate in only 9 men's sports and 12 women's sports. Stanford has 15 men's sports and 16 women's sports. Under the old scoring structure, 10 men's sports and 10 women's sports were counted, so Florida was handicapped with the men having only 9.
UCLA has finished 2nd 8 times and 3rd 7 times. They had never finished out of the top 10 until 2008-09. They've since finished out of the top 10 3 times. When they have finished in the top 10, they also have not finished below 7th.
USC has been strong lately, finishing 4th for the last 3 years and 3rd 4 years ago.
The 3 Big 10 schools you mention are by far the best of the conference. I believe Ohio St. has 1 more sport than Stanford and could do better than they have. They've been all over the map in the last 8 years, finishing 2nd 3 times and out of the top 10 twice.
Michigan generally finishes 3rd - 6th, but has also finished out of the top 10 6 times.
Penn St. has finished in the top 10 12 times. Their best finishes have been 1 3rd place and 1 4th place.

All of the other top 10 programs need great results from all of their better sports to reach Stanford type tallies. Most are going to miss needed results in men's hoops.
UCLA is having a bad year, but they could collect a number of NCAA team titles.
Beach volleyball, baseball, women's water polo, women's golf and this year's internet darlings, women's gymnastics, could all win NCAA team titles.
They probably won't pick up NCAA team titles in all 5 sports, but it is possible they recapture the #1 in NCAA team titles claim.

UCLA could also win women's tennis, too. I don't
think they will--I think they're a notch below us and teams like Georgia, UNC, and Vanderbilt--but they're a top 10 team, and I'd expect them to at least make the NCAA quarterfinals, where crazy things can happen. But UCLA should get some good points out of women's tennis, at least.

After the second Winter results have been tallied, Stanford leads with 930.25 points followed by Penn State with 715 and Wisconsin with 690.50. Here's a link to the press release:

Adding 73 points for WBB and 0 points for MBB brings the YTD total to 1,003.25 which compares to 977.50 for the same sports last year.

Thanks for the updates, BigEasy! At a glance, we seem to be in pretty solid positioning to repeat, since the Big Ten schools right behind us tend to fade in the spring sports. By year end, our usual closest competitors have historically been UCLA, Texas, Florida, and USC, right? It looks like Florida and UCLA are so far down they'd be unlikely to catch us, but do you have a sense of where we stand vis-a-vis Texas and USC in terms of remaining sports?

2006,
I looked up the current NCAA ranking for Stanford, USC and Texas in the sports not yet officially scored and translated those rankings into Cup points. Some Cup points were approximate, but probably close enough for purposes for this analysis. I also ignored cases where a school is not ranked in the Top 25 but still might score Cup points in a field of 64 or 32 teams (Stanford Softball?)
With 17 sports remaining to be scored, I get the following estimates of potential Cup points for each school:
Stanford – 934 across 12 sports, average of 78 points/sport
USC – 732 across 10 sports, average of 73 points/sport
Texas – 596 across 9 sports, average of 66 points/sport
BTW, USC currently has three teams ranked #1 (Women’s Water Polo, Women’s OTF, and Women’s Golf). We have enough strength in the remaining sports to end up above last year’s total. I don’t think either USC or Texas will pass the Cardinal.

If you look at the NCAA rankings site for WWP, you'll see CWPA rankings as of almost a full year ago. They're a little behind, and while rankings don't change much they have changed!.
Stanford beat USC in OT last week (Mar 30), so Stanford is ranked #1 and USC #2 in the
current CWPA rankings.
There are
alternative FOSH rankings (as of Mar 31, after Stanford's win) that still has USC in front. I don't understand how they came to their conclusion given that the only quantities they show other than the ranks is Stanford having 60% better offense against a hypothetical average opponent, and USC having a 16% better defense against that hypothetical opponent. That's not to say they aren't accurate & precise, but just to say they are opaque. (Also compare their #8 & #9 ranked teams. The #9 team is shown with better offense & defense than #8.)
Come see your #1 WWP team play #3 UCLA tomorrow, Saturday, 3PM at Stanford. The game likely will be played rain or shine. Come early for a seat under the overhang. It will be broadcast live on PAC-12 Bay Area channel (set your VCR for 1.5 hours as a game takes a bit over an hour and OT will take about 15 minutes or longer). Those of us with only the PAC-12 national channel will have to try to catch it Monday at 11:30AM, at which point it may get cut because of some press conference about a coaching change, just as they did for the WWP game between #1 and #2 when shown the only time on PAC-12 national in tape delay this past Monday. I am grateful that the school that scheduled that press conference only took out the first 30 minutes, not the last 30 minutes.

Thanks for the update MT. The WWP rivalry with USC has generated some exciting matches in recent years. Bottom line is that WWP will not give either school an advantage of more than 20 Cup points on the other. And UCLA is definitely in the mix as well.

With the next-to-last Winter release, Stanford leads #2 Michigan with 1,003.25 points to 760 for a lead of 243.25 points. Here's the link to today's press release:
https://nacda.com/news/2019/4/11/directorscup-stanford-leads-division-i-learfield-img-college-directors-cup-standings.aspx?path=directorscup
At this point last year, Stanford had 977.5 points and Michigan had 796.50 for a lead of 181 points. So Stanford is running almost 3% ahead of last year while our closest competitor is running about 4% behind their performance last year.
I expect points for Gymnastics similar to last year so the Cardinal lead should remain substantial through the final Winter tally.
Congratulations to the Cardinal teams for sustained excellence in athletics.

Some results always get tossed, and probably more now than before the recent scoring change since we have to include Men's Basketball and only nineteen sports are counted.
In my opinion, there's no such thing as too many good teams. The excellence matters to the athletes on each respective team and their families and fans. And from a Cup perspective, points earned and not counted are still points denied to a competitor.
