Forgot this rundown that included a couple of names who were in the women’s World Cup (their teams have now been eliminated), but not on the US team.

Yeah, enormous win despite probably being outplayed for most of the game.

If you can’t finish, you won’t win. France played well but I wouldn’t say they outplayed the US.

Fair point. Rapinoe and her ability to finish was the difference. But I thought France controlled the game. I haven’t looked at the stats, but I would say they had possession 60/40, and that the ball was in our half about the same amount of time. They certainly had more shots, even though they weren’t all high quality chances.

We had more shots on goal actually 8-5
France certainly controlled the second half.
USA the first half
60-40? Lol. Yes exactly
RE: USWNT -
BostonCard - 06-29-2019
Yeah, overall shots were 20-10. Glad that the French couldn’t hit the frame (also lots of blocks by the defense).

“I’m not going to the ***** White House,” : Megan Rapinoe
I'm as patriotic as the day is long in summer, but sometimes it's tough to root for our side.

Makes me want to root for our WNT that much more.

Friendly reminder that we keep things apolitical around these parts. Since my guess is the average USWNT fan is closer to a 30-year-old gay woman than a seventy-something-year-old straight white man, as a descriptive matter, I'd chalk it up to both sides playing to their base.

Hmmm. Leading scorer benched for the start. Not even warming up with the team, just watching.

I would assume Rapinoe sitting is injury related, because it's not "disciplinary" and there's no other reason they'd keep her from even warming up with the team. Fortunately, it's giving our Stanford alums the opportunity to shine, and they are making the most of it, doing a fine job keeping the US in it!

From another blog not injury related but to "provide more structured defense". blog saying as good as Rapinoe is offensively doesn't contribute much on defense....but other sources stating thigh injury
RE: USWNT -
BobK - 07-02-2019
Maybe hamstring

Doesn’t explain why she didn’t warm up, but I did see this tweet.

Praise for Press, and if that was the strategy, it paid off as Press has a goal.

Nice article on Christen Press and the difference she made against England today:

Mentions the Stanford connection with Kelley O'Hara.
Geaux Cardinal!

And BobK was right as the article mentioned a minor hamstring injury for Rapinoe.

We already beat Swedes 2-0 in Group F, so I think we end up facing NED Orange Nation on Sunday. NED won Group E with 3 wins, but with just 6 goals and 2 against. A disciplined, well drilled squad, but not as explosive as ENG. I think we just beat the next best team in the Tourney.
