The battery power needed to sustain that kind of effort would be immense. You could think about having drones with wired power supplies, but you still have the safety/reliability issue of making sure the drones don't randomly fall out of the sky due to software error...

+1000. I've attended several matches at the US Open in Flushing this past week and a brobdingnagian bonus upside to the retractable roof they installed on Ashe is that it serves as a sun guard for at least 2/3 of the stadium at all times. I used to avoid day matches at the Open specifically because it would get so hot in the stands, but now it's more than bearable even when the players are roasting on the court. Stanford should put all its engineering and design school talent to good use and fix this, because it's embarrassing in 2019 that we are less effective at cooling stadia than the Romans were 2000 years ago.

How about folks just wear sunblock, sunglasses, hats and drink lots of water?

It's still uncomfortable. Also, I think the seats were actually dangerous, it really did feel like I was getting burned every time I sat on one. Fortunately I have one of those foam cushions.
But, for me personally, the biggest issue was that my 3-year-old was utterly uninterested in being there. Normally if he's not into sitting down I can put something on his tablet or just wander the stadium, but he spent literally the whole time asking to go home. The family next to us that also has small kids bailed after like 10 minutes. It's hard to justify subjecting small children to that.

Went to the Giants game on Sunday, and bought seats 35 rows up, just to be in the shade. It was very pleasant. Of course, the Giants lost 8-4, but at least we were comfortable...;)

Well, that's what we did, and I thought it was fine. However, lots of people were too uncomfortable to stay in the stands, and I think that took away from the game atmosphere and almost certainly looked really bad on TV.
Personally, I think that the athletics department should do what it can to increase attendance and improve the game day experience. While I wouldn't advocate turning the place into a climate controlled bowl, I do think exploring something that can project shade in the hot summer months and protect from rain in the winter would improve everyone's experience.

Well, there is also the 10 degree difference between Palo Alto and Mission Bay (plus SUnday was milder than Saturday). Take a balmy 89 degree game in Palo Alto, move it to the city, and as if by magic, it is a pleasant 76.

Have to think outside the box; that's what makes our university special.
Have a few sets of drones that can rotate out each quarter. Use a blimp-like design that doesn't use much energy to stay in place. When your requirements are simply holding a position versus needing something super-maneuverable/fast you can alter the design of the drone to be more suitable for that use-case.
