SC has brilliant receivers. They have negative yards rushing. Have hit some big plays downfield. All 3 of the TD passes were great catches. One long TD on a 50/50 ball where the receiver beat two defenders to the ball than ran another 30 to score.  And SC has played very well defensively.

It’s also been one of the dirtier games I’ve seen in a while.

                                                  2) At least at home, SC is a very tough team to beat. Yes, we had a bad night, but perhaps beating the Trojans in the Coliseum was easier said than done.
                                                  3) Maybe SC's WR are just that fast, and our DB's aren't that slow. Utah has a fantastic defense (arguably the best in the conference), and SC's receivers are making them look very slow.

Third string QB not planning to play comes in and posts the following

Matt Fink
com/atp 21/30
yds 351
avg 11.7
TD 3
INT 1

Oh, verse a top Utah team to boot.

RE: Other games - cardcrimson - 09-21-2019

I thought Huntley of Utah was a suppose to be a quality quarterback. From what little I watched of the game, he was downright awful. Putrid. Stupid decision making as well. Getting sacked and called for grounding in an endzone? Sheesh.

Utah can’t win at SC.  Sometimes you get beat. Sometimes you lose. Utah lost.

USC:
  • Lost Slovis on their second offensive play of the game, and had to play the rest of the game with a guy who was their 3rd-string quarterback to start the year

  • Had 6 rushing yards with under four minutes left

  • Lost the turnover battle

  • Had the ball for just over 20 minutes

  • Allowed over 450 yards, over 238 on the ground to a Utah team that lost their star running back in the 2nd quarter

  • Allowed 28 first downs while having just 14 until the final possession

  • Were playing an unbeaten top 10 team six days after losing a heartbreaker just six days prior

Gotta have playmakers. Right now Stanford has none. McKee better be very good.

Wisconsin 21-0 over Michigan. 7 min to play first half.

RE: Other games - OutsiderFan - 09-21-2019

Will Harbs be fired on the tarmac?

lex24 - lex24 - 09-21-2019

Wisconsin through 14 Quarters 138-0

Changed philosophy. Went to spread style attack. O-line getting CREAMED. Wonder if they are not equipped to run this offense.  I remember when Walsh came back to Stanford. He replaced Denny Green.  Green liked brobdingnagian lineman and  ran a power running game. Walsh liked lighter more athletic lineman for his West Coast offense. That team struggled on the line.  Stenstrom took a lot of hits. Of course Walsh was so brilliant that he could coach around it. But there aren’t many Bill Walsh’s out there. It’s hard when you’ve recruited for one style  to play another.

Wisconsin has only played 10 quarters in 2019 thus far.

lex24 - lex24 - 09-21-2019

You mean 2 times 4 isn’t 12?  Math was never my strong suit. ?

Is there a law that mandates Cal and Stanford can't ever be good in the same year?  The only year both teams were both at least good was 1991.

Cal looking quite good this year. Stanford...

RE: Other games - SamuelMcF - 09-21-2019

Turns out Northwestern is...really bad.

lex24 - lex24 - 09-21-2019

Both were good in ‘75

This is why I was convinced Stanford would lose to USC. NU stinks slightly more than Stanford.

lex24 - lex24 - 09-21-2019

Looks that way. MSU is very good defensively.  But still

The most Cal finish ever as the Bears need a not reviewed reception at goal line and a stop on 4th down and an inch to win at Oxford. LOL

lex24 - lex24 - 09-21-2019

Went across country. Played 9 AM game. Hot and Humid. Beat SEC team. Style points. No. Who cares.

i believe it was #6, michael pittman, who was particularly brilliant. 6'4" 200 lbs, faster than the utah dbs, tracks the ball really well. 10 receptions for 232 yards. amon ra was good, too.

RE: Other games - Austroturf - 09-21-2019

Pitt up two scores on UCF.  14-0 early in the second quarter.  A lot of game still to come, but UCF looking very ordinary so far.  Should be 17-0, but Pitt shanked a FG in the 1st quarter.
