RE: Injury Report - Hank 91 - 10-11-2019

Shaw described it after the game. When Mills came out the first time, it was because he "felt something." They had him go through some agility tests on the sideline, and everything felt fine, so they put him back in on the next possession. When he felt something again, they decided not to push it, so they took him out. He made it clear that he would've made the same decision regardless of game score and situation.
Even so, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Jack West on Thursday.

Not saying this time but sometimes you gotta play hurt.

It may well be that Mills would gladly play hurt. It also may well be that Shaw doesn't think it necessary and will not let him do so. If West is the QB, he will have to complete some passes. Even if UCLA isn't a great team, you can't beat them if they know you aren't going to pass at all.
Does anybody have a clue about Costello, either about what is keeping him out or when we can expect him to be cleared to play? I assume he is out because of his hand injury against Oregon, but I don't know that.

That was a regular John Ralston observation.
"We play with pain".

Powell was playing hurt how did that work?
Hamilton was playing hurt how did that work
Mills came out then back in
Costello never came out

Health bests playing hurt

"Hurt" isn't black and white, as if either you're hurt or you're perfectly fine. I suspect most players are playing through some level of injury most of the time. The line between whether it's best to play or to sit out is very fuzzy.

But if Howdy Doody is the last cowboy on the range it may be time to throw Curly Bill out of sickbay.

Costello looked to me like he was holding his hand very carefully . . . I"ll be surprised if he is ready Thursday, but certainly hoping to be wrong
