Nooooo! What are we going to do with our new gaudy guy if we can't rebuild him. He's costing the Giants 50% more than Steve Austin. . . .

When the Giants said they were going to get younger I assumed it was on the field. But my oh my did the coaching staff get younger. And less experienced. I bet they are all great with computers. Plus they will be able to impart all their wisdom based on their experience as player in the major leagues. Or maybe not.....

Lynch built a terrific team in three years.
Farhan won’t do it in seven.

And in other news, the Giants are moving in the fences by between five and eight feet:

Agreed. Farhan will do it in three.

OK Mick you get a pass because you too are a stats man.
Lynch played the game, Farhan played with a computer. He would have been a great guy with a slide rule back in the day. He even looks shifty. LOL.

I’m fine with the kiddie Corp coaches. Open mind on them. Heck maybe the hitting coaches will convince Belt to swing at that third strike.

Interesting. I guess we’ll see if the new dimensions make much of a difference. Shortening Triples Alley by 6 ft....hmmm. And both LCF and RCF will still be further than straightaway CF?

Okay, here's a little more, part 1:
1) Bumgarner wants 5 years at $120 million. Giants (and no one else, so far) want to pay it. Bum may take a shorter deal with a higher average annual value.
2) Giants interviewed Yankees minor league hitting coach Rachel Balkovec for one of the hitting coach positions. She would have been the first female batting coach in the major leagues.
3) Samardzija's name is coming up in trade talks. Cueto might be traded mid-summer. Longoria and Belt are both on the "we're-listening" trading block, though not actively being shopped. Longoria hit .870 OPS on the road last season. Teams have taken notice.
4) The former head of scouting who put together much of the 2014 world series team (drafted 7 of top 13 players), John Barr, was honored at a dinner celebrating top scouts. He still works for the Giants, Farhan claims to respect him.
5) New rules next season (26 man rosters, three batter minimums for pitchers and 15 day disabled lists for pitchers). The thinking is that long relievers may have a more substantial role, which could affect Dereck Rodriguez, Andrew Suarez, Connor Menez and Larry Anderson; all of whom are capable of getting between four and nine outs as long relievers.
6) The Giants are marketing Joey Bart to the Bay Area. He's expected to be a mainstay soon. Apparently, Bart is quite charismatic and very good with fans. Giants are impressed.
7) Sandoval really wants to return to the Giants, even after his extravaganza wedding. he's recovering from tommy john surgery.
8) Giants took Dany Jimenez in the Rule 5 draft. In 59 innings for the Toronto Blue Jays' Double AA team, he struck out 93 batters. Here he is:

Here's more part II. The Giants are obviously amenable to trading for dead contracts as long as live young potential players come with them. Here's some suggestions:
1) Josh Reddick, Astros. Owed $13 million, he's worth $3 to $5 million, based on his 1.0 WAR (exactly the as Kevin Pillar). Zaidi already traded for him in Oakland and Los Angeles. Astros have a few pitchers nearly ready to go to the bigs. That would be good.
2) Boston wants to move David Price, about as good as Bumgarner. He's owed $96 million for three years and he's 34. Giants could get prospects. Bosox could add power-hitting 3B Bobby Dalbec or 25 year old OF Andrew Bentinindi (think young Josh Reddick).
3) Padres want to move Wil Myers, owed $60 million for next three years. Padres have LOTS of great prospects.
4) Mets want to move Jed Lowrie, owed $10 million for one year. Hurt all of last year.
Yankees in a similar boat.
Giants are top bidder, so far, for Nick Castellanos, Cubs big hitter. He's hit 20+ HRs last three seasons with 27 last year. Not a great fielder.
(12-12-2019, 08:01 AM)BobK Wrote: Thanks for the Dimensions update Mick. I expected more...
More, part III:
Farhan is blowing up the Giants, with enthusiastic approval of the ownership because of:
1) Overall lack of coherent franchise goals.
2) Absence of analytic-directed player development.
3) Poor player drafting.
4) Dependency on old school scouting on both the pro and amateur levels.
5) Farm system that needed emergency defibrillation.
So he hired Kapler, and two young hitting coaches as noted elsewhere, along with 32 year old GM Scott Harris from the Cubs. He also got Pro Scounting Director Zach Minasian from the Brewers and Amateur Scouting Director Michael Holmes from the Oakland A's. He got Brian Bannister from the Boston Red Sox to be the Director of Pitching.
BTW, Sergio Romo is looking to land somewhere. No kidding.

Triples Alley, is losing six feet of depth, dropping from 421 feet away from home plate to 415 feet. The corner in left center field will now measure at 399 feet, down from 404, while the center field fence will move from 399 feet to 391. The center field fence will also be shortened in height from eight feet to seven feet. The decision to move the bullpens from foul territory to the outfield is giving the Giants a chance to create terraces that will be built into the bleachers. Also, the Giants will extend their protective netting all the way to the foul poles at the outfield fences.

What a haul for Farhanburger. Three day vacation for staff at a resort and they come away with a 3-9 starter and a kid infielder the Angels “let” get away.
And they did not hurt little Stevie Duggar’s feelings.

I really like your term, the very disrespectful Farhanburger. Great, great nickname, particularly for an MIT/UCBerkeley PhD who worked for Moneyball Billy Beane and drove the A's success, then was hired by the Dodgers as GM, then:
a) Took the Dodgers to their first World Series in 27 years in 2017.
b) Took the Dodgers to the World Series again in 2018.
c) Won 106 games this year.
Totally with you man. I long for the days of 98 and 89 losses, when the Giants owned, absolutely
owned the basement. Doggone Farhanburger messing that up. He clearly doesn't know how to build a team. I mean getting a kid infielder who was the #15 overall pick in the draft last year, what the hell was Farhanburger thinking? And getting a 2017 All-Star shortstop. Jeez, Farhan is an idiot. And non-tendering the superb Kevin Pillar, hero of heroes -- sure, he strikes out all the time and can't field, but come on! 21 Home runs in just 645 at bats. And we could have had the second worst OBP player in the NL at just 31 years old for a mere $10 million! Idiot rebuilding Farhan...

Considering Kendall Rogers was just weird. Arizona State was #176 in WHIP with 1.55 and #144 in ERA with 5.93. Why would any MLB team spend ten seconds talking to that guy? Stanford was #20 in ERA and #26 in WHIP. Why not Tom Eager? For that matter, UCLA was #1 by a long way in ERA with 2.60 and WHIP with 1.05. Why not ex-Bronco John Savage?
