Yikes. If ever the team could use a big lead early so the starters can rest in the second half, this is that game. Here’s hoping for a fast start.

First quarter is ugly.  Mostly turnovers, missed layups and very very slow to rebounds.

Colorado has 7 offensive rebounds and we have none.

Down 21-13 after a quarter.  Tough that our offense hasn't clicked, but dissappointed that we've allowed the Buffs seven more shooting opportunities than we've had.

In other action, Oregon is up 25-18 on OSU, Washington is up 22-11 on UCLA at Pauley(!), and Arizona beat ASU.

4pts between the 2 teams after 5 minutes into 2nd qtr

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Colorado Friday 7pm - triangle2 - 01-24-2020

Colorado is a fouling machine. A lot of bumping and arms swinging near faces. Payne seems to think that the refs are too chicken to call everything. Unfortunately, this is obviously true.

Kiana resistant to shoot, 0 pts

Hope "second half" Kiana comes out because she seemed hesitant to shoot.  And if she isn't shooting and with Jones out and Lexie with foul trouble, then we have no offense.  But the second quarter defense was excellent.

We are up 27-25 after an incredible defensive second half.

Two stats that stand out for me right on a macro level:

13 offensive boards by Colorado. That must be fixed in the second half, you can't give any team that many chances, especially when your offense is pretty limited right now.

On the other hand, Colorado's 4 points in the quarter (which in itself a great stat for us) came from free throws. Yep, no made basket from the field allowed by our defense.

We have to take advantage of that type of defensive excellence, but we are only by 2 at half, because of our offensive deficiencies. Fran lacks experience and the finishing touch around the basket, Kiana is 0/5 and two of our main scorers Lexie and Prechtel have 2 fouls each.

It was different seeing Stanford playing so much zone. Most of the second quarter, I think. It really stymied Colorado.

Jenna Brown made a nice contribution in more minutes than usual.

Colorado's O-boards weren't too surprising. Kate told us at the chalk talk that they keep four in to rebound and only one hangs back to defend. So she was expecting we could run on them effectively when we did get a defensive rebound. It hasn't worked out that way, though.

UCLA still down at home against UW (35-25).  Oregon pushing its lead on OSU; now up 45-29.

Another painful offensive quarter.  If Williams refuses to shoot perhaps put in Brown?

Third quarter and we are down 41-39.  The good news, such as it is, is that our offensive rebounding has ticked up (it was zero in the first quarter, and we now have 12 offensive boards).  The down side is that Colorado's offensive rebounding continues to hurt us, and they are actually capturing a greater share of their missed shots than we are (17 offensive rebounds, while we have 10 defensive boars... yikes!)

Colorado just seems tougher.  They are very much out hustling us.

Before someone else catches that, yikes indeed!

And yeah, Colorado is up 56-50 and it just doesn't look like we have it today.

Fran appears lost at times on defense

It really sucks that the GoStanford.com sidearmstats don't work.  Without the Pac-12 network it's the best way to follow the game.

My hopes for this season are rapidly going down.

Looks like our D stopped working in the 4th.  Down 7 with under 3 to play.  Does not look good.

Down 4 with under 1:39 remaining.  Our ball.
