Looked it up. One is not your normal lineal relationship. Interesting, especially as the youngest's stepdad and uncle played in the majors. . . .

Yup, I was looking to drop the hint, but couldn't figure out how to say it; the second and third generation players have an uncle/nephew relationship, though the nephew is still the grandson of the first generation player.

While we are at this, there are five father/son pairs who have both been major league managers.  Name then (hint: two are amongst the three generation families as players).

Yes, yes, and yes.

Two to go.  Also two triplets left, I think.

Bob Gallagher is the Stanford player.

Who is the only manager to take 5 different teams to the post season ?

RE: More MLB trivia - Phogge - 09-26-2020

Dick Williams.

The remaining three generation families.

The Hairstons (Sammy, Jerry, Johnny, Jerry Jr., and Scott) and the Schofield/Werths (Ducky Schofield, Dick Schofield, and Jayson Werth).

The remaining two generation manager families:
The Sislers (George and Dick) and the Skinners (Bob and Joel).

This may be very obscure, but there are 6 father/son umpiring families.  Anyone hazard a guess?

Not Dick Williams

No one.  Dusty will be the first, but the Astros haven't yet played their playoff game.

Giants, Cubs, Reds, Nationals and now the Astros

Dusty has taken his Astros to the playoffs. They are in.

RE: More MLB trivia - BostonCard - 09-26-2020

Yes, they have qualified for the playoffs, but they haven't played in the playoffs.  And with COVID-19 being what it is, there's always a remote chance that the virus somehow sweeps through and the playoffs are cancelled.

In any case, it's quite the accomplishment for Dusty.  He will break a three way tie with Billy Martin (Athletics, Tigers, Twins, Yankees) and Davey Johnson (Mets, Orioles, Nationals, Reds).
