Man that's good to know! I guess all those NFL folks are getting paid the big bucks to do what can be done in 15 minutes. Who knew?
Teejers may be exaggerating a tad. But he’s right that Mills is significantly more talented. Better release, better feet, better arm, much more accurate. Now whether that translates on the field is a function, in part of health and the talent around him. Particularly the offensive line.

Don't forget that the Chicago Bears traded up to draft Mitchell Trubisky 2nd overall...ahead of some random players like Patrick Mahomes (10th) and Deshaun Watson (12th). The NFL folks have a stellar track record.

I bet Mills is "significantly more talented" than Joe Montana too. Lots of "betters". However, how that translates to the field is often a function of things that are harder to measure. Some guys have it, others do not. Some guys are "lucky" a lot. The system does matter, and the supporting cast does matter, but I submit that figuring out who is actually going to be a successful QB, college or NFL, is not easy. If it were, there wouldn't be so many "misses", or so may QB controversies.

Ok. Agree. Circumstances matter etc. But I’ll take my chances with the more talented guy almost every time. The almost being if the other guy has massively better intangibles. There is no reason to believe Mills doesn’t have “it”. Staying healthy is the question.

I think "intangibles" is a bit of a trap word. Some QBs throw a really sweet spiral a long way in practice but in a game they just don't make it happen. It isn't really intangible, but it is often inexplicable. For some guys it is certainly mental and they freeze up in a real game. Other guys don't freeze up, but they just seem to throw a bit late or to the wrong guy or the wrong side of the right guy. Some other guys play "mediocre" in practice and are beasts in a game, making throws they can't/don't make in practice. History is replete with people who had a cannon of an arm, understood the game, but just didn't get it done. So the results are tangible, but the reasons often are unclear. It just happens.

Mills has already shown he can play. He significantly outperformed KJ last year.

Albert, Garrett, Brodie, Plunkett, Benjiman, Elway, Luck, Hogan. Those were the days. Stacks up as good as anywhere with four #1 overall NFL choices.
Right now I'd take someone with Jack Douglas' grit, Steve Stenstrom's arm and Don Bunce's guts.

Funny, I would have used Stenstrom as the example of grit and guts.
With all due respect to his O-line, he got hit so much that sometimes I felt like Burgess Meredith in Rocky yelling, "Down! Down! Stay down!"
Down! Down! Stay down!"

schonert could also be included as he merely led the country in passing while sharing time with elway.

Getting back to the Costello/Leech show, Costello's PER in four games with MSU is 120.5, which is actually lower than last year's rating (and that includes one phenomenal game against LSU). Since that game, his October PER is 99.6.
I hope he can bounce back.

He won't have the time behind whatever they call that offensive line. Offensive indeed.
Also, their stud RB is remaining out to prepare for the draft rather than return after a small injury. They also had 3(?) new portal entrants this morning. Obviously Leach needs to get his people in and rebuild the team in his image, but the related amount of attrition never looks pretty.

At his press conference on Monday, Leach said that the QB battle between Costello and Rogers is still neck-and-neck. MSU plays Alabama this Saturday.

And now players are quitting- a receiver and two defensive ends. RB Kylin Hill, MSU’s best offensive player is also planning to leave. The Pirate’s ship is sinking.
Edit: hadn’t seen Samuel’s post. He covered this.

I didn't cover the
3 new players yesterday that you mention! My 3 and your 3 are different. Total is now up to 7.

Davis, in limited action, has thrown for more yards in one game than any of those great QBs ever did for Stanford. I'll take Davis for 7 straight games

Looks like Costello got the start today....but his stats don't look very good and they're done 20-0 in the second.

Costello was just drilled trying to escape a three man DL. Looks like a concussion. I only watched about 10 min and I think he was 0-3 and running for his life. He's left the field and the frosh QB is in. This hasn't worked out well for him and I am sorry.
