RE: WBB: Stanford @ UNLV today 2pm - 81alum - 12-05-2020

47-21 at the half.  Not quite on pace for a century.  I think the frosh look a little more like frosh this game--Brink forced one, picked up a foul, etc.  But Jones has 14 points and 7 rebounds in 18 minutes.  I imagine she will get a long rest.  Belibi look very good early on.  And Anna Wilson is 2-2 from three point range.

Yes, she tried to drive to the hoop through a crowd too often. Freshman mistakes...

I disagree on Brink. You will see

I'm glad you got it working. What's ironic is that I usually use Firefox, but went with Chrome this time because I was afraid Firefox wouldn't work.

Wilson loves to play in Vegas lol

She's super talented. Just made a couple of poor decisions today.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ UNLV today 2pm - BobK - 12-05-2020

Brink is very aggressive.

Let me be clear.  I think see has a fantastic future.  I'm only commenting on what I saw this half.

Hear ya. Hey the top volleyball and basketball recruit at Arizona Lauren Ware is playing basketball FYI

How about Belibi. She looks great.

I suppose it's ok with less than 10 seconds in the game and up by 40 plus points to run down the court and score one last basket.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ UNLV today 2pm - bl82 - 12-05-2020

On Brink, the first 2-3 times they passed the ball to her, she was running full speed as a trailer, was out on the perimeter, caught it in stride at full speed with defenders right in front of her and had to do something acrobatic just to avoid an immediate offensive fouls. That’s not on her; that’s on whoever was passing to her. It probably also means Cam’s teammates think she can do something with the ball in that crazy predicament.

Well, that one last basket put Stanford over the century mark -- two games in a row. When did we last do that? If ever?

There was a lot of good in this game -- really, really liked what I saw from Fran, and Haley was terrific. I think that Tara was not only giving everyone minutes, but also trying to keep legs fresh since they play again tomorrow.  There was definitely some sloppy play at times, freshman mistakes, yes, but with limited practice, maybe that's understandable. The thing that concerned me more than anything was the number of fouls -- far too many. Maybe some are because of Missy B, but that's an excuse. I suspect that Tara will really take a hard look at what they were doing that led to so many whistles. Not good at all. Other than that, tho, the stats look great, and no one played more than 26 minutes (Kiana and Haley). 23/12 assist to turnover ratio, 10 blocks, 57% field goal percent vs 27%. Another game that shows a team with a LOT of promise.

I feel like Haley Jones needs some more kudos here.  She just put up a ridiculous stat line, 25 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 blocks, 2 steals, 0 turnovers in only 25 minutes of play.  She scored a point a minute and shot 71% from the field.  I know it's very early in her career but I can't think of a better Stanford player at driving to the basket.  It's a tough skill because you have to have a great handle, great body control, great decision making (shoot or pass), great length to get the shot off, great strength to finish through contact and great shooting touch.  I am suggesting that Jones might be the best EVER at Stanford at driving to the basket.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ UNLV today 2pm - Lorcan - 12-05-2020

2011-2012 season, we did it in two exhibitions against UC San Diego and Vanguard. If you want the regular season, we did it last decade with the 2008/2009 team against Washington and Washington State. The Washington win was a ruthless 112-35 win against a team that had a future WNBA Champion on it in Sami Whitcomb. That's impressive.

RE: WBB: Stanford 101 UNLV 54 - 81alum - 12-05-2020

Haley Jones not only broke her points record but led with 7 assists, not to mention 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.  She is in fact turning into the superstar we have all hoped for.

I echo the enthusiastic reviews for Belibi.  She is so much more polished around the basket, and her defense is light years ahead of where it was last year.

Brink improved in the second half.  She has growing and maturing to do, and she will.  Games like today are exactly what she needs to help make the adjustment to college.

Jump had a rough day, going 1/6 from three.  That won't last.

Wilson looks to me as if she deserves the minutes she is getting.  Lexie, Lacie, and Williams are playing as expected and doing what is asked of them.

Prechtel played well enough offensively, but those 4 fouls against an overmatched team might be troubling.  Unless they were Missy fouls.

And now, on to our Pac 12 opener tommorrow!

RE: WBB: Stanford @ UNLV today 2pm - M T - 12-05-2020

As for the fouls, that's just the refs (any refs) calling anything in favor of the team that is way behind.

Yeah, I wondered about the steal & layup with less than 30 seconds in a blow-out.  Frankly, I was disappointed when we settled for a wide-open layup at 97 points and 40 seconds left.  I was thinking it would go to Jump, but the players aren't watching the score like the fans.

I haven't looked at the stats, but watching (sorta) live, I was most disappointed in how many def. rebounds the other team got.  In the 2nd half, we just started putting the ball in the air with no one in place to rebound.

There were runs that looked like the team they can be.  At other times, our players could beat them one-on-one and kept doing so rather than doing the team play they do so well.

I thought UNLV did a good job.  No cheap shots, no frustration, a lot of good play.

By the way, I thought the play-by-play was SO much better than the previous Stanford game.

Yeah, it seemed the Mountain West announcers were more Stanford fans than UNLV fans.  They were clearly well versed on the background of all the Stanford players.

Regarding Hayley Jones, I thought she was even better in the first game. Brink will be fine. Of the frosh, Jana and Agnes came back down to earth a little today.

Thanks. To me, the exhibitions don't count for this, but for regular season, the two against the Washingtons . . . I do recall that now. And I definitely remember that Washington ruthless win. If I recall correctly, much of the 2nd half was played by the bench and they just couldn't miss. Again, my memory is that after the game, Tara apologized or at least said something to the Washington coach (who was it then?), along the lines of, we didn't mean to run up the score but I can't tell the subs not to shoot. Maybe I'm misremembering, but that's my memory.

going back a bit further, the 1989-90 championship team scored over 100 eight times, including 3 in a row (arizona, arizona state, cal). they scored over 110 five times including 2 games in the NCAA tournament (2nd round and elite 8). they scored over 90 nineteen times (not a typo!)
