No. I don't have any inside information but it seems pretty clear that he has the program headed in the right direction, even if progress is slower than many of us (myself included) would like. He's a Hell of a recruiter, seems to know how to coach but things haven't totally fallen into place yet. I'm still optimistic about the future of the program.

Just happened to be browsing through The Athletic (paywalled) today, and unexpectedly came across this old pic (same pic, different source) of a smiling (younger) Haase. (Nothing political intended; merely a tangential observation.)

Can't help wondering how much longer Hasse is going to get a pass for having mediocre teams,

I hate to make what could be perceived as excuses, but he and we got really screwed when Terry decided to jump for the pros after one season. I don't think any of us thought he'd leave before graduating, much less after one year. Things would look different this year if he had stayed. Losing Deajon for a month (and having back at less than a 100%) and having Wills out for weeks has also been, to quote Mike Montgomery, "a tough deal."

I mean, given results, he’s been cut a hell of a lot more slack than David Shaw on this site, but I’d have to believe his seat is much warmer.

Is the basketball program "in a better place" than it was when Haase took over? I'd argue that it is, despite the shakiness of the past two games.
Is the football program currently in a better place than it was when Shaw took over following the 2010 season?
Look, Shaw gets criticized because he doesn't do the obvious things - things that are in his control - to improve the program. Those things have been chronicled ad-naseum here but most of them are valid IMHO. In the case of Haase, I'm sure there are some things he could do to improve the program, but frankly, I'm not sure what they are. Maybe you or others can point out some steps he can take. I will say that the fundamentals of the team are lacking a bit but I don't go to practices so I don't know if the lacking is a function of his coaching or something else. It's funny how much more fundamentally solid the whole team looks when it has a high-level point guard like Tyrell Terry.

Haase last 4 or first 4 seasons 65-61
Dawkins last 4 81-56

I'd take Haase over Dawkins every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Sorry but if they don't make the NCAAs I think it's hard to argue that the program direction is going in the right direction. This is Year Five, not Year Three. These are all his recruits, his system, etc. It's not good enough.
Of course all of this is moot. Muir is going to keep him no matter what we say. I just hope he doesn't sign Haase to some kind of long-term extension - something he absolutely hasn't earned.

I would bet Hasse came on a 5 year contract. If I’m right then it’s already been extended

I agree about not earning an extension, but I think this program is very close to breaking through. Of course you can never know what would happen, but I would heavily bet that if Wills and Daejon aren't out for an extended period of time, this team could be undefeated in conference play. Haase is a tireless recruiter and each year he's landing higher rated guys.

Hasse has the offense running plays that have been mostly successful with our roster. Our defense has been pretty good too. Our guys play with high intensity, most of the time. We had some off games where the players weren't executing the offense and we lost. I'd say Hasse is coaching up his players about as good as can be expected. He also seems to be signing better players every year, so he isn't falling off on recruiting. Losing Terry has cost us dearly this season. I don't see a coaching change as the right path at this point.

I'm 50-50. He's recruited some excellent players, but we need more dominant heft.

I have zero doubts about Haase as a recruiter, but I have significant doubts about his ability to develop a cohesive unit whose combined play is at least as great as the individual talents.
There's no doubt that he's better than Dawkins, but Dawkins should have been fired at least three seasons earlier and that's not the bar. The bar is making the NCAAs and contending for a conference title - not every year but at least some of the time. Haase has barely had a sniff of a golden ticket and hasn't come anywhere close to a conference title.
I hope the team makes the dance and puts this discussion to bed. It was a rough week but when healthy this is an NCAA-caliber roster.

I think this point is very salient: "when healthy this is an NCAA-caliber roster." In fact, I'd argue that, when healthy, the team is capable of winning a few games in the tourney. I don't know how many other teams wouldn't be struggling if their starting back court were out a few weeks.
Stanford will be the underdog in at least its next two games if the team isn't at full strength. Even if they lose both, while I'll be disappointed, I don't think it portends poorly for the future. Especially, if Spencer Jones is missing in addition to Wills.

This year's team has the same weakness that almost all of Stanford's recent teams have had - they can't make 3 point shots. Is that on the coaches?
2020-21 - 31.1%, 253rd in the country
2019-20 - 37.3%, 21st
2018-19 - 31.7%, 293rd
2017-18 - 36.9%, 83rd
2016-17 - 32.3%, 294th
2015-16 - 31.8%, 297th
