Reynolds was one of those pitchers that if the Yanks scored two runs he would hold you to one. If the Yanks score five times he would hold you to three or four. That's why I disagree with the people who think won/loss records don't matter.

Gaylord was like that also.
The differences in their day they finished what they started so the decisions were usually on them. Now they go five innings get through the order twice, throw 112 pitches (if they make it through 6 they are considered heroes). Five relievers follow. So wins for starters today don’t matter much; as they have turned over control to the parade of relievers. .

Disagree Lex. I want a guy who is pissed at getting taken out, who takes the manager under the stands and kicks his butt, who can toss a purpose pitch and hope the hitter comes after him. I want four of them and a few relievers to go to war.

Phogge we don’t disagree at all. I want the same. They just don’t exist anymore, with a few exceptions. It’s one of the reasons I’m such a big MadBum fan. (I know he’s probably done). Could you imagine if Bochy had tried to pull him in game 6 after 73 pitches?
