We do, and that is the problem. We don't do pars very well. You aren't going to do well when your best player is unlikely to break 80 for a round.

Mercurial. Not what Coach wants to see
Barclay Brown looks like he had a hideous back nine today. And that guy is on the Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team.
I will have some more insights to share tomorrow. I'm driving up to Santa Rosa tonight to have dinner with my uncle who is part of the Rules Committee for the tournament.

Our #1 is playing like a #6 this week. I don't know whether the course just doesn't suit his game, or if it means that we don't really have a #1. We have been fortunate for the last decade to rarely have a bad round out of the lead dog. Rodgers, followed by McNealy, followed by Wu/Salinda. I *think* we have some underclassmen with the talent to follow in those footsteps, including Brown, but they aren't there yet.
P.S. Shimp, after years of being injured and then overshadowed, has stepped it up at the end of collegiate career. Way to go Henry!

Gonna be a tight battle today for 3rd-5th between Stanford, Oregon, and Oregon St. Early in today's round, only 3 strokes separate these three teams.

Win, what did you learn about the tournament from your dinner last night with your uncle?

halfway thru, we're playing much better: -14, the lowest round of the day so far! (but just starting to run the 10-14 gauntlet

Now -17 through 11-15 holes, and now in third place 8 strokes clear of Oregon. Six holes to ASU in second which is doable but going to be tough; 10 holes to Arizona is probably not.
This has been our pattern this year; start slow and shoot a really good last round.

What an awesome final day for the Cardinal!
- Shimp eagles 18 and ties for the lead (Arizona's Brad Reeves has 3 holes left to play).
- Team shoots what will undoubtedly be the low team round of the day, and is currently tied for 2nd. The worst they can finish is 3rd
- All six players finished under par
- Ng and Thorbjornsen both in the top 20
It will be VERY interesting to see where they end up for NCAAs both in terms of seeding and location

The team finally figured out how to avoid blow up holes today. And they destroyed the par 5s. -26 on the par 5s alone (and -69 on the par 5s for all 4 days which just seems insane). All six players broke par led by Shimp with a 64 (including eagle 3 on the final hole) and Thorbjornsen with a smooth 65. Brown finally played like a #1 and shot 67.
Stanford posted the best score by any team in the entire tournament today at 336 (-24) and looks like they will finish 3rd as a team behind ASU and Arizona. With a few players still on the course, Shimp is tied for 1st in the individual competition. It's a good round to build on. Now we will wait on the regionals announcement next Wednesday.

-24 for the day, and we are (at least for now) in a tie for second; ASU has a couple holes left, so they could move ahead or fall behind us. OSU, which had a torrid day yesterday, fell back down to earth.

Shimp lost to Arizona's Brad Reeves on the second playoff hole. This is a massive confidence boost for Shimp who has struggled at times this year.
On to regionals!

Are teams able to bring 6 players to regionals and swap out one player on a given day? I know that was allowed at NCAAs in 2019. If so, I think we can expect to see at regionals Brown, Vilips, Thorbjornsen, Shimp and Ng with Menon as the alternate. As we have seen today, this lineup on the right day can compete with anyone. Hope that Stanford might be assigned to the regional at a familiar course like University of New Mexico.

Unfortunately Shimp didn't win the playoff. It would have been awesome to sweep the individual champions for Men's and Women's this year.
Regarding substitution - yes it seems like that rule is still in effect. Basically you take 6 and play 5 on any given day, with four scores counting. Of course, if a player doesn't tee it up for all rounds, they cannot win the individual championship.
This whole substitution thing came about a few years ago when one of Texas' players got injured in the semis and they started the championship match down 1-0 in match play. It is known as "the Beau Hossler rule" by some. Originally, the substituted player had to be injured. Now it seems more lenient.

Shatters the school record for low round---minus-23 for top four players, versus the previous record of 20-under--but perhaps it doesn't count because we played six men rather than the customary five. A superb round regardless\.
