University of Florida WVB sight seeing in San Francisco. They beat the hurricane and probably got here before the Stanford team.

Correction: They came here from Sacramento so there was no hurricane to beat.

They most definitely got here before our team. They played three matches in the Hornet Invitational (Sacramento) over the weekend, starting 8/27. So if any team will be jet lagged, it more likely be our team. :)

I watched the Youtube video of Stanford@Temple (Thanks mbdude!)
If Temple had tied it at 23-23 in the 3rd set, I am not sure that Hambly would have called a time out. Considering what is next on their schedule, I suspect he might have preferred them to go to a 4th set against what seemed to be a weaker team, just to get a bit more playing time.

Obviously Stanford has a long way to go. Getting everyone healthy will be a help, but the sooner that happens, the more cohesive the team will be. I'm not worried about the service errors - I'm confident that will be corrected before the postseason.

I had the feeling that they were just keeping Temple at arm's length. My impression was they were trying to give Berty lots of chances, so she'd get better. (But many of her kills were tips over the block.) When Temple got close, they'd give it to Kipp or Baird to keep the lead.

Nice summary M T, thanks. I agree Berty had plenty of chances and most often did not put heat on the ball. My hope would be when Francis comes back she would play OH although I don't know if she can pass well enough.

While Stanford looked good against Temple, here's the problem. The competitive level between Temple and Stanford's next six opponents is the difference between night and day.

Can Stanford win any of its next six matches? It's not likely but Stanford fans can hope for at least one upset along the way. If Francis comes back I believe Stanford might be able to make up enough ground in conference to get a .500 overall W/L record to be eligible for the NCAA tournament.

I think Stanford has the best chance against Florida if it's going to win one more non-conference contest.

Stanford zoomed up to #20 in the AVCA poll this week.

Elena Oglivie is Pac-12 Defensive player of the week, Kami Miner is Pac-12 Freshman of the Wek.

I am more optimistic than paloalto (again). For one thing, we play Penn State on a neutral court, and they lost to Georgia Tech. I think we can beat them without Sami Francis (though I hope she is available by then).

Tomorrow's match with Florida should be informative.

Apparently vaccination or proof of negative test is required for entry, but is on the honor system.
