Down 4-8 in set 4, timeout. Ugh!

We're missing Oglivie in back row

We had a set point 24-23 but lost the set 25-27.
Oglivie definitely missed.

Yup, with her in, we won two sets easily; without her, we just lost two sets. It’s 9-point swing per set.

Miner has our highest hitting percentage. She’s also second on the team in blocks after Vicinity.

UCLA knows. They keep attacking Beavan with serves too.

Berty in for Kipp?

Berty has been playing back row for Kipp. Normally Beaven does that, but of course she's in for Oglivie at libero.

I don't think so, but our passing has been awful w/o Oglivie. Everyone struggling.

This one got away from us.
Tough weekend against UCLA

Didn’t see first two sets but Sami Francis looks like she’s struggling so not sure why Miner is setting her so much. She also didn’t kill an over hit she just touched it back
Also, seems like we might be missing the leadership that we had in the past that kept us steady during tough matches.

Francis and Baird both looked tired.
Stanford outhit (.233 to .159; and Mac May negative hitting negative pct) and outblocked (20 to 13) UCLA; rest of stats close

Hoping for libero OGLIVIE's recovery from possible concussion.
Pretty much, the turning point was OGLIVIE suddenly coming out of the match for good while Stanford was leading in the 3rd set after taking Set 1 and Set 2.
I can't recall any match by Stanford vs. Top 25 calibre team during the 2016-2019 HENTZ era where HENTZ did not play, so just imagine those dominant Stanford years without HENTZ at libero. So, somehow, I am not that frustrated with this loss which was definitely winnable in 3 sets with OGLIVIE playing.

Just to be clear, Oglivie came out after the second set; she didn't play in the third at all.

My expectation is Oglivie will be held out of play/practice for at least several weeks even if a specialist doesn't detect any symptoms of concussion. I'm surprised she wasn't taken out immediately after being hit. I suspect there will be some criticism for that.
I checked on Hayley Hodson's civil case against Stanford. She filed it in March 2018. A trial is finally suppose to be scheduled later this year. Probably won't happen until next year for one reason or another. Looking at the dozens and dozens of court proceedings/documents filed I would guest both sides have blown through $100,000 plus in attorney fees. Based on some articles Stanford does not want to settle this; they want to prevail in court.

It's clear that Hambly was being honest in the pre-season Zoom session that our depth is thin. Seems like we will have a drop-off if we lose any starter for injury or Covid reasons, except possibly a defensive specialist?
On concussions, the timing of Oglivie's return to play depends on the severity of her initial symptoms and how she does through a progression of graded recovery steps. Can't be predicted in advance.

I hope she’s ok. Did she definitely suffer a concussion or was this protocol for players who suffer a hard hit to the head?

RE: WVB: #18 UCLA @ #12 Stanford - Softball Fan - 09-26-2021
There's no way for fans to know if she suffered a concussion. She'll have to be evaluated by a doctor. Stanford WVB won't release anything. When I have time I want to rerun the play in slow motion to see if the ball hit her forehead or her jaw. My uneducated opinion is a jaw impact would be less inclined to rattle the brain.
FWIW, one of the demands of Hodson's original lawsuit was that all volleyballs used by NCAA institutions have a warning getting hit in the head by a volleyball can cause a concussion. That demand was dismissed by the court.

I just watched the video; in real time (I couldn't slow it down) it looks like the ball hit her forehead. It rebounded back over the net, the rally continued, and Oglivie actually dug the next ball and another one in the rally (which Stanford ultimately won). As soon as the point was over, Hambly immediately motioned her over to the sideline to talk to him, he put his hand on her shoulder and talked to her longer than just a quick strategy point. I'm guessing he was seeing if she was ok. She did not seem adversely affected and smiled some during the final few points of the set, but during the 5-minute break after the set the situation must have changed or she was assessed more carefully.
