Stanford fans should be fanatical in a Stanford way - and not aspire to become Alabama Lite. This is good news for Berkeley fans and tree lovers everywhere who can rest easily knowing THEIR oak trees are safe for another 50 years of tree sitters.
Seriously, OF, we want to be great fans but don't see that as needing to fit the SEC "Get a life" mold.Â

Lefty's right, OF... we don't "put down people in SEC country for being... fanatical". I/we put down people who are idiots, who have absolutely no life beside living vicariously through their football team (often while wearing blinders with respect to some of the scumbags they idolize)... wherever they may live! I love and respect enthusiastic, loyal "fanatics" who admire and support athletes who succeed with character, and who strive to demonstrate those attributes in their daily/"real" lives as well. Now tree-poisoners, Cam Newton-bidders? Not so much...

Well,
I feel like a political candidate that has planned an amazing press event with plans for all kinds of national media coverage, only to discover that some other candidate is involved in a scandal that consumes all of the available oxygen.
This Penn State thing is absolutely stealing away every available minute on ESPN. Spots that were almost certain to be features on Stanford or Oregon are now replaced with commentary about very sad events that took place 7-12 years ago in "Happy Valley".
The scandal is stunning and the idea that Joe Pa could be kicked out are almost unbelievable, but at the same time this was supposed to be the one week for the Pac-12.

This Penn St. scandal (putting it mildly) puts the values of sports and moral courage into perspective.Â
