Sad about Jana.  Hope she is ok

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - martyup - 12-12-2021

Brink is close to a double-double in the first half.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - BostonCard - 12-12-2021

Cameron Brink is on pace for a double-double at the half.  She has 14 points and 8 rebounds.

BC

Now up to 9 rebounds.

And three Brinks.

Nope

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - TheFarm07 - 12-12-2021

We lead 45-34 at the half as our offense cooled off, but Pacific's did not, shaving a point off of our lead.

Brink is playing confident basketball, scoring 16 points on 8/12 shooting to go along with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks and just 1 personal foul. You can see her confidence and patience in the paint, using her superior size, height and skill to score easy layups. My only qualm was a silly overpass to Jones after securing a rebound and one wild shot where she could have re-set.

It's nice seeing both Demetre and Emma-Nnopu getting playing time in the first half, where is Prechtel though? It would be nice to see her in the game too.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - martyup - 12-12-2021

Brink gets her double double in the first half with 16 points and 10 rebounds in 16 minutes (with only 1 foul).

Prechtel has yet to see the court, while Belibi has 7 minutes and Demtre has 2 minutes.

Jump played all 20 minutes of the first half.  Good conditioning.

Sorry Farm, I was typing mine when yours got posted.

No worries, the more posts the better. Hopefully the second half will be more like the first quarter than the second. Our defense needs to tighten up a little more and until they can stop Brink, we need to keep getting her the ball

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - martyup - 12-12-2021

Brink with 4 blocks and 3 assists to go with her 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Kiki is now in.  Prechtel?

Kiki is now out, after picking up her 2nd foul in just a couple of minutes.

Bosgana is now in.

At the end of the 3rd, no Stanford player is negative in the +/-.    Lexie +23, Brink +20, Jump +22, Lacie +10, Wilson +12.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - TheFarm07 - 12-12-2021

Heading into the final ten, we played the 3rd quarter much more like the first ten minutes of the game, outscoring Pacific 25-11 and expanding our lead to 25, 70-45.

It's appropriate that Nneka is in the audience for this game. Brink is starting to show the type of dominance that Nneka showed against overmatched opponents. Brink has scored 20 points off of a tidy 10/14 shooting; once she gets the ball in the paint or even in the high post, she's showing the awareness to know what she needs to do, whether evading the double team by going the other way or just muscling her way into an easy layup.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - martyup - 12-12-2021

When Brink gets fouled on a shot, you really shouldn't say "and 1" until she starts shooting more that 50% from the charity stripe.

BTW, she just scored her 25th point for her career high.

And . . . Prechtel finally sees the court.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - joemontes - 12-12-2021

Just as I predicted, Stanford led as much as 27 then ended the 3rd quarter with a 25pt lead, 70-45.
What's impressive is that they built the 25+ lead with several of the reserves playing

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - martyup - 12-12-2021

Hamilton gets some playing time.

Jerome also comes in.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - mbdude - 12-12-2021

Prechtel doesn't look 100%

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - martyup - 12-12-2021

With 4 minutes to play it's all subs for Stanford.  A little rough, but good to see them get court time.

Kiki used her court time to hone her skills in the paint.  She looked pretty good scoring 9 points and 4 rebounds with only 6 minutes of playing time.

Final is 91-62.  It's fun to watch blowout wins.

Is Harrell ever going to play?

RE: WBB: Stanford vs Pacific Sunday 12pm - TheFarm07 - 12-12-2021

We win 91-62. After an unsteady beginning to the fourth, our bench players got into rhythm, especially Iriafen and we extended our lead, ending up outscoring Pacific by four points in the quarter.

Iriafen was the star at the end of the game going 4/5 and showing some prowess under the basket. It will be nice to have a secondary reliable scoring post option after Brink. I was not very impressed with Belibi on the offensive end, she coughed up the ball once and did not like impressive. On one of her buckets, I thought she got away with lowering her shoulder into her defender too.

Our free throws still need a lot of work, we were 8/14, shooting under 60% again. Brink, in particular, will need to increase her conversions at the charity stripe, given the amount of opportunities she could potentially have this season.

Defensively, we cooled Pacific off to under 40% shooting from the floor, though they shot 45% from long range and converted a much more efficient 13/15 from the FT line.

The offensive star was obviously Brink finishing with 25 points on a very efficient 12/16 shooting from the floor, Nneka-like numbers with the former star in the house. But let's not forget about Lexie who had a very good day too, ending up with 16 points off of 7/11 shooting.

Haley was a solid 4/9 for 11 points, she didn't need to score too much given Brink's and Lexie's great days at the office. Jump was a little off from long range this afternoon, just 3/10 from 3-pt land.

I liked how we got a lot of players the opportunity to participate as we rightly controlled most of the game against an opponent we should overpower. I think we should get one more chance to do so against UC-Davis before our tough road trip to Tennessee and South Carolina.

RE: WBB: Stanford 91 - Pacific 62 - chimera - 12-12-2021

I only saw the stream, not live.  Not a bad way to exit the two-week break.  Final score was about what I thought it would end up being as far as the margin, but I did think the defense, especially second quarter, was not that great.  Brink was great, Lexie was great, everyone had some good moments, so thumbs up and on to the next.

I do wonder what it up with Harriel.  Either still injured enough that they want to hold her out or they have decided to redshirt her, which would be highly unusual.  They don't usually make those sort of decisions so early in a career.  In fact, I can't think of any player who has redshirted voluntarily as a frosh who was not injured.  But with 17 on the roster and playing time being so hard to find, if they think she will be really good, maybe this is a first?

I would assume Jana was ill if she was not on the bench.  Hope all is well there.

Just home from the game.  Yes, I had the same thoughts about Harriel and Van Gytenbeek.  Van Gytenbeek did not seem to be in the house.

Iriafan is still a little green and missed a couple she could have made, but she does seem to have better moves under the basket than Belibi or Prechtel.   A lot of "bigs" that have passed through never had that fluidity around the basket that Brink and probably Iriafan have.  Highly promising for the future.

I think the most fascinating aspect of the game was watching how Tara defended Anaya James.  Lacie was on James early in the game, then Lexie took over.  I think Lexie did a better job defending James.  Late in the game Emma-Nnopu came in to defend James.  Wilson was considered our top perimeter defender--something of a defensive specialist, but that assignment did not go to her this game.

It seemed to me after an excellent year by Wilson, who claimed the Co-Defensive Player of the Year award in the conference and made some clutch shots during our postseason run, that she's taken a step back, for whatever reason this season so far. I had thought heading into this year, with Williams' departure, and the uncertainty in the guard positions, she would be our steady hand in the backcourt, continuing to provide the defense we came to expect from her, while contributing to the offense.

Instead she seemed to have lost her starting job and isn't in there for top defensive assignments either, which one would think would go to her after the season she had last year.

Iriafen, in my opinion and with a very small sample size, is already demonstrating very good instincts around the basket, which is an early encouraging sign.

Was there any audio on the Pac-12 livestream? I had my computer capturing the livestream video while I was at the game, but I can't hear any audio on the playback.
