Of course not.
I have a story or two but in person

Rebranding a team is an enormous marketing and merchandising opportunity. "WFT" was already used for the last two years so it's a lost opportunity to launch a P.R. campaign around the new name, and 2) it isn't a good brand to create content around. Calling a team "WFT" has limited creative value.

Personally,I think they should have remained WTF.  Seems fitting.

I had suggested the Washington DCs. Why? Because it rhymes with feces

I'd like a team to be named after me.

RE: Washington football team is now the Commanders - Phogge - 02-03-2022

Commanders is a stupid name. I prefer something like G Men, Supremes or Foggy Bottoms.

They came close….

They liked the acronym DCFC.  However, the Detroit City Football Club already uses it (and sports the burgundy/gold colors).  WFT was concerned about the legal repercussions so they passed, particularly since they risked losing the rights to the colors which were the most important aspect of the rebranding process.

Wasn’t there a San Antonio Commanders in a now defunct league? Wouldn’t they still own the trademark?

Commanders, like many have noted, is somewhat bland. It lacks inspiration. And yes, it's too long and doesn't lend itself well to a nickname. The uniforms look like they belong in Tempe, not DC.

Certainly not mad about it; I don't care enough to be mad. But rolling out a new team name is an opportunity to do something cool. The Seattle Kraken isn't just a good name, but it's a great logo and brand (one designed by former Stanford Tree Matty Merrill, fwiw). And when teams have the chance to do something awesome and instead default to something boring that sounds like it came out of an old football video game where they couldn't get licensing rights, I think a team--especially that team--is due for some mockery.

Commanders by itself isn't ideal, and paired with another three-syllable word in Washington, it's even worse. But what if they go with an alternative branding of DC Commanders? Kinda rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? Punchier, at least.

Rhinos would have been good.  Much better opportunity for a killer logo.
