Only 1 turnover in the 1st! Haley isn't playing.

Pretty solid first quarter. Lexie is playing confident and shooting lights out. I’m sitting in the Stanford section behind the bench. The Hull parents and Brinks parents are here as well as Wilson’s mom. Pretty good Stanford turnout. Hope we can keep it rolling.

Lexie is 4-4 from 3 in the 1st half!
We already have 11 assists.
At the half we are shooting 50% and 50%! We lead 40-24. Pretty ball.

We lead 40-24 at the half, thanks to scorching long range shooting, led by the Hull sisters who are 5/6 on three pointers. We are actually shooting slightly better (8/16) from 3-pt range than inside the arc (8/17). Thanks to our able shooting, we also have 11 assists on 16 made baskets.
Hopefully even if we cool off in the second half, the threat of the outside shot will make the interior a prime opportunity for Brink & Belibi to score.
Brink picked up two fouls in the first so it was left to mostly Belibi to take the interior on offense, she is 4/8 for 8 pts along with 7 rebounds.
We are holding the Bruins to 31% shooting with Osborne 2/8 and Chou 1/3. After giving up 5 o-boards in the first quarter, we held UCLA to only one in the second quarter.

Our FT shooting has been terrible in this game. 2-6.

We lead 57-33 after three quarters. After a good start to the quarter where we had our way inside with Brink and Belibi, Close adopted a zone defense which significantly slowed us down and led us to looking not that sharp trying to figure it out. Fortunately UCLA could not capitalize on their end of the floor and we expanded our lead by 8 points.
We ended the quarter well though with a JVG three pointer and an Iriafen o-board and putback at the buzzer.
Lexie and Belibi already with double-doubles tonight.

What’s the record for the number of players on a team with double-doubles? :)

This is good watching. Brink drains a beautiful 3 from the baseline. We're cooking with gas in Westwood.

Are we better without Haley Jones in the lineup? Only 5 turnovers midway through the 4th quarter. Haley practically averages that herself. Kidding but not really. Fran going off and showing she needs to play more. It’s been a great game all around!

Tara emptied the bench with 4 minutes to play. Jerome gets to play. Nice.

Is Agnes out too? Didn’t see her on the bench - and feels like a game she would have gotten into if healthy/available.

She was not playing.

No Agnes tonight either. Hannah Jump was dressed and on the bench. Haley and Agnes were not on the sidelines. My speculation would be Covid protocols for both? Hopefully we’ll learn more.

She ended up with 20 points and 13 rebounds. She was perfect 2-2 from the FT line. Only 1 foul and 1 TO in 26 minutes.
Oh what weapons we have.

We win 76-48 as we easily handled the Bruins even without Jones or Jump.
Belibi (20 pts/13 rebounds), Lexie (14/10) and Brink (17/8) led the charge offensively. The resurgence of Belibi is really nice to see over the last couple of games, providing our offense another interior option besides Brink. Though she missed a couple of easy looks at the basket, Fran was still active and aggressive around the rim. Lexie's main offense was through her outside shooting as she was 4/7 from downtown, but only 1/6 closer in; I would love to see her finish some points in the paint. Brink was efficient from inside (6/8 inside the arc).
Defensively, the Bruins did not put up too much of a fight. We handled their top player Osborne without too much difficulty (12 pts on 5/15 shooting). They had three players in double figures, but Osborne was their leading scorer with just twelve. They had 12 o-boards, but five of them came in the first quarter, so holding them to seven over the last thirty minutes were pretty good.
Simply put, we took care of business, like we should, even without Jump or Jones being available. A workmanlike win for us.

Very nice game against a depleted and over matched UCLA. Fabulous performance by Belibi, another very solid night from Brink, and most important of all---Lexie broke out of her slump.
As a team, one of our best performances in terms of turnovers--only 8 for the game. 20 assists on 30 made baskets. But it was our defense that was most noteworthy, Holding UCLA to 48 points on 32% shooting.
Biggest concern is that we don't really know why Jones is out or how long it will be, and Jump is not fully back and Emma-Nnopu is out. We have to hope that if it is COVID that it has been contained and more won't go down.

Yes for Stanford fans; not so much for other fans. TV ratings in the Eastern time zone for the second half probably hovered slightly above zero.
This was a beatdown.

That was very easy. UCLA doesn't have the players to play like they usually do, even with Osborne back, though they have given UA and OSU tough games in losses so maybe it was more us being good? We were down two starters but who could tell? That said, I hope Jones and Emma-Nnopu are back soon. I thought we played very well. Shot well, rebounded pretty well aside from a few sequences where the Bruins got three O boards, low turnovers, decent defense, etc. Belibi has looked fabulous lately. Some of those moves and shots she now makes strongly she wasn't able to do at all before. We have such an embarrassment of riches in the post.

Jones posted a picture in a big hoody with a serious sad/angry frown with the caption "mood" two days ago. I assume that is when she got news of a positive covid test/exposure or suffered some sort of injury or got some other bad news. We won't know unless she decides to share it. All we can do is hope that whatever it is is over soon and that she recovers and is back quickly. I'm guessing that Jump was actually sick rather than just exposed to covid because, if she hadn't been sick, I think she would have played tonight. Again, just hoping for a quick, full recovery back to her prior form for Jump.
The performance of the team over the last few games in stepping up when players are out could prove to be really helpful as we get deeper into the season. I think they are bonding and supporting each other like they did last year while they were on the road for so long. I also think that a lot of players are improving and gaining confidence that could be really important for any future injuries or foul trouble.
Very different watching this team compared to the men's team but I don't want to bring negativity in this thread when I am enjoying watching this team so much right now.
Cheers,
Pete F.

Our post depth is pretty amazing and just what is needed in this COVID year. We legitimately have 4 forwards who can drop a 20+ point 10+ rebound game and make it look easy. Brink, Belibi and Jones have all done it and I’m not sure if Iriafen has but she easily could with more minutes. And I’m fairly confident that next year Betts could do it no problem too. Contrast that with our struggles in the post in the after-Ogwumike years. The only players we had who could maybe score 20/10 were McCall her senior year and Smith her senior year. That’s it. Other years we had a plethora of good defender/rebounder but offensively challenged posts.
