RE: WBB: Stanford vs. San Diego State Monday 7pm - 81alum - 11-07-2022

From the SDSU site, a few interesting factoids that confirm that the main threat is their perimeter offense.  Would not be surprise, given how many guards they have, to see some press.  They are a mature, experienced team.

Quote:• The Aztecs are receiving votes in the preseason USA Today Coaches poll.
• SDSU returns three starters (Avinger, Ramos & Staples) seven letterwinners from a year ago. They are bringing back 74% of their scoring and 89% of their assist contributions.
• The Aztecs have six players in their fifth year of college and 10 of their 13 scholarship players are upperclassmen.
• The Aztecs had four players average double-digits points last year and return three of them in 2022-23 (Avinger, Ramos & Staples). That was just the second time in the Mountain West era (1999-present) that the Aztecs had four players averaging 10 or more points.
• Last year, SDSU set a school record by committing just 12.87 turnovers per game.
• SDSU has five newcomers. Transfers Sarah Barcello (Marist), Yummy Morris (TCU), Abby Prohaska (Notre Dame) and Adryana Quezada (Utah State) and freshman Jaida Brooks (PHH Prep). Quezada, an All-Mountain West selection last year, will redshirt the 2022-23 season.
• Guard Sophia Ramos (San Antonio, Texas) is returning for her fifth season. An All-Mountain West honorable mention selection last year, she is the only Aztec ever to have at least 1,500 points, 400 assists and 500 rebounds in a career. She enters the year in the top 10 in program history in nine statistical categories, including points (5th), made threes (5th), assists (6th), made free throws (6th) and three-point percentage (10th).
• Point guard Asia Avinger (Cerritos, Calif.) was named to the Mountain West All-Freshman Team after averaging 12.0 points and 3.9 points, which was tops among all MW freshmen.
• Avinger was one of four freshmen in the nation to average at least 11.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
• SDSU has two active players in the top 10 all-time in career three-point percentage. Mercedes Staples is third at 38.6 percent (68-176), Isabela Hernandez is fifth (36.3%, 62-171) and Sophia Ramos is 10th (35.1%, 153-436).

Baez87 - Baez87 - 11-07-2022

For anyone who attends the games and is wondering if and when the pre-game Chalk Talks would resume this year: CHALK TALKS START WITH PAC-12 GAMES!

Thanks! I'd been trying to figure that out.

Any TV broadcast?

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. San Diego State Monday 7pm - 2006alum - 11-07-2022

CompSci, sorry to treat you like the world's most capable VCR, but if this isn't televised, are you planning to capture from the live stream? I have a conflict during game time but sure would love to see this game if possible. Thank you!!

Sounds like a great early test for what the heck were doing at the 1 and 2 this season, both on offense and defense.

And thanks to all for the great coverage, commentary, and pre-season analysis. I've been too swamped to participate (am about 1/4 of the way through the Vanguard game, still...), but it's been great stuff.

Best way to grow the fan base is EUTM, and this board's fans are leading the way. Thank you all.

That's a real disappointment, to put it mildly. Seems to be a no brainer to have them for at least South Carolina and Tennessee. What are the staff thinking about!!!!

Sorry, but I'm not text acronym savvy. What's EUTM?  But I do agree that all the commentary is great. I really learn from it.

Enthusiasm Unknown To Mankind. For many around here, it was the secret sauce that turned around our football team almost (gulp) two decades ago, now:

Paly grad brings home 'an enthusiasm unknown to mankind'

I wonder why they won't do them for non-conference.  They used to do them before every game except exhibitions.  Just one more way they seem not to care about hard core fans.  Chalk talks are just an assistant coach spending 10 minutes answering questions, nothing too time consuming or difficult, no real preparation needed.  But they can't be bothered until conference season?  And wonder why attendance is not more...  (I know very few of the fans who attend a game also go early for a chalk talk, but come on, having one is the minimum they can do for fans who care enough to attend them.). Yes, I am annoyed that the little we get as far as interaction with the program keeps getting less and less and less.

I'm annoyed too. Has anyone every emailed anyone within the WBB program about the concerns? Not that doing so would make any difference but would be curious if voicing frustration would actually elicit a response from anyone.

It was only practice, but so far I am unimpressed with SDSU's 3 point shooting.  Maybe 1/10 went in.

The Band just arrived!  Things will be all right now.

I count all 15 warming up.  Including Belibi.

Papadaki has the highest arc on her 3 point shots!  And so far In practice they are going in, for the most part.

No. 12 for SDSU just made 6 treys in a row in practice, so disregard my earlier assessment.

I am on stanford live stream and all I can get is the men's basketball game or a baseball game?  What gives?  I'm using the same schedule link I used for the vanguard game.

I almost forgot, but I did start a capture, and I think it's working. It might be missing a minute at the start.

Sloppy 2nd qtr getting outscored 8 to 6 halfway through

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. San Diego State Game Thread - Grad Fan - 11-07-2022

Interesting to see Bosgana get significant minutes as Hannah's back up when I would have seen Brooke as more natural. Would be great to have another strong 3 point shooting option. Also they didn't drop but a couple nice moves to the basket by Agnes.

On the other side Lepolo does look a bit hesitant to take her shot

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. San Diego State Game Thread - martyup - 11-07-2022

42-16 at the half.  Beautiful basketball.  We are shooting 48.3 - 44.4 - 75.  Sweet.
