LSU is a great team, but they don't have a single win over a current Top 25 team. And unless they beat South Carolina, they aren't going to get one. Even with 4 losses, Stanford likely would have 6 or 7 wins over Top 25 teams. It'd be rough to lose that #1 seed to LSU in that case.
If anyone is interested, LSU plays Georga at 2PM Pacific today on the SEC channel.

The game is on  SEC+ , not SEC net. You may be able to get it streaming, but not on cable in bay area.

I think that the SEC+ games are available on SLING a few days after they are played. That seems to be true for the LSU vs Alabama and Arkansas games. I wonder if Mulkey has deliberately avoided facing tough teams until she could develop a strong team, or whether it was just difficult for her to schedule tougher teams to play her at LSU.

We've seen just how fast a team can develop in the current open marketplace and LSU's Mulkey is a prime example. I do agree that she lacks "creds" until she defeats a ranked team. And the rankings don’t always reflect the strongest teams. It seems that there is a built-in bias when you look at how teams like Tennessee were over-ranked in recent years when they didn’t deserve it. Ucon has gotten a bye from time-to-time (although they are stacked with talent this year), and certain players or coaches seem to carry their team upward in the ranking (I’m thinking of Mulkey at LSU and Clark at Iowa).

Why the caveats?  I fixed it for you.  It isn't guaranteed, but I think a "very good chance" is there, even if we play South Carolina or UConn or any other top team.

81alum, we can just simplify the requirement:  Barring a disaster of 1998 proportions, Stanford should make the tourney.   Stanford just needs to win its last game of the year.

Even in 1998, Stanford made the tourney. #1 seed, but we don't talk about that.

Did we play in the 1998 tourney?  I remember we declined our invitation after Kristen Folkl and Vanessa Nygard went down with ACL injuries.  Instead we played an exhibition game against Harvard, which we lost.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I love your story except I was there. A Hard days night

Watching game online on ESPN right now.  Georgia up  9 7 halfway through 1st quarter.

South Carolina "only" up 8 on Kentucky 6 minutes left in 3rd quarter.

Watching it on SEC+ via Sling app (but I have the Extra Sports option).
End of 1st  15-10 Georgia.  LSU hasn't hit a FG in 7 to 8 minute (wound up at 9.5 minutes).  Even FTs are bricks.
"Only thing that is consistent is the turnovers"  "It's been bumper cars out there"

LSU and Georgia go to overtime.  Georgia with 30 fouls.

LSU pulls it out in overtime, with the help of 45 free throw attempts.

Does Mulkey pay those refs out of the athletic dept. funds, or her own pocket?

That was...something.

NIL collectives?  Big money sponsors?
Passing the plate among the NIL beneficiaries?  Broadcast networks?

We’ll probably never know….
