Last season, Aikey, with a tough outside the box angle, buried a twenty-yard free kick to score a key goal against Washington State. Caterina Macario, the most prolific goal scorer in Stanford history, had this free kick gift (but I cannot recall Macario ever scoring on an unassisted corner kick). This season, Aikey leads the team with 3 goals in 4 games.
More to come, and Aikey is just one of a gaggle of goal scoring players (Maya Doms, Andrea Kitahata, Lumi Kostmayer, Samantha Williams, and (if she’s recovered from the ACL) Allie Montoya. In the first four games, nine different Stanford players have scored one or more goals.
I agree Aikey is amazing. If anyone hasn't seen her play in person, you should really get out to one of the games. I miss her at midfield because she is so good at scoring from distance. But with Maya Doms coming back for her COVID year (thank God!) and top recruits Mia Bhuta and Shae Harvey coming in, we have a very crowded midfield. Aikey's a star and will make good things happen wherever she is on the field. (There's a reason the USWYNT coach played her a full 90 minutes in this summer's U20 CONCACAF final.)
We should see Montoya again soon. She played well in the exhibition match. I assume the coaching staff is just being cautious with her recovery in these earlier games. Maybe we'll even see her against Duke.
As for Macario, I don't recall her ever making an Olimpico at Stanford, but she does have one as a pro:

Stanford Women's Soccer is #3 in the latest Coach's poll (leapfrogging now #4 North Carolina in the process). It gives me great joy that that happened in the same week Dorrance said he hoped the ACC would reject Stanford so that our women's team would "die on the vine."

Big game vs. Dook this weekend. Tried to get tickets, and it is sold out. If anyone has an extra pair, let me know. Thx.

Dook is in honor of Dookie V.
There was a time when I had a strong dislike for the ACC for being sheep to ESPiN spin, propping them up.
I had...

Good times hating on that conference before

It looked to me like Duke got robbed on the call that led to the second Stanford goal.

Nya Harrison goal was a thing of beauty. Dribbled almost the entire length of the pitch and struck the ball perfectly. Golazo!

Stanford will move up in the rankings this week since #1 UCLA fell to BYU 3-1.

Why wasn’t this offsides ?
1. unless it's obviously egregious, you can't judge offsides from an angle, so the video is inconclusive
2. and especially not when the potentially offside player is not even in the video we're viewing when the ball is struck on the pass to her (which is the moment when offside is judged). By the time a long pass arrives to a receiver, she can be yards ahead of her defender yet not offside when the ball was struck. The receiving player in this video had the advantage of seeing her defender as she was looking toward the ball so it should have been easier to stay in an onside position and timing her burst of speed for just after the ball was struck.
But looking at the side ref who is responsible for making that call, the video does at least raise the possibility that the side ref--who is seen running down the line during that play--might not have been in the proper position to make that call (directly in line with the second-to-last defender), or was not aware of when the ball was struck, which might help explain (but not excuse) the no-call if in fact it was wrong.

I found a much better angle view in this
highlights video.
Right as the video first hits 2:30, the receiver is clearly
behind the defender (i.e. onside) but is overtaking the defender (by hitting play and quickly stop, the video progresses in fractions of a second). When the ball is struck (still with 2:30 on the video clock), the offensive player has pulled even with or maybe a tiny bit ahead of the defender (easier to judge on this video because of the small angle of the camera and because of the horizontal line of the box). I would say it was a very close call and can't say that the side ref (who the video shows was in the exact correct position to make the call) was wrong.

Stanford women are now #2 behind BYU, who got hugely rewarded for that win over UCLA. And Stanford men are now #1!!! We have a legit shot at the double soccer national championship again (as in 2017).

Stanford is playing Georgetown but you have to pay the crappy services of FloSports to see the match. Just frustrating

The web service that almost all colleges subscribe to drops the event's details once it is over. So, if there was a stat broadcast, I'd have to hunt for it. GoStanford.com full schedule (it is no longer in today's schedule) indicates it was a 1-1 tie. No box score yet.
Apparently the game was moved an hour earlier (9AM PDT) because of weather.

Maybe we were a little asleep at the start of the game! But another great free kick score from Aikey!!
from the GT website:
- Seven minutes into the contest Henley Tippins played a ball from the baseline back towards the penalty spot and Emma Davis lasered a shot into the bottom right corner giving Georgetown an early 1-0 lead.
- GU continued to press the Cardinal backline and was able to record five shots in the first 30 minutes of action.
- GU and Stanford went back and forth the rest of the half, but GU was able to take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
- Stanford came out of the half and pressed the Hoya backline generating five shots to the Hoyas three in the first 20 minutes of the second half.
- With five minutes remaining in the second half, Stanford earned a free kick 20 yards out and Jasmine Aikey was able to bend it around the wall into the top left corner for the equalizer.

Video of Aikey's equalizer vs. Georgetown. A thing of beauty.
Stanford's next match is Sunday vs. Santa Clara at Laird Q Cagan Stadium. It's already sold out.
