RE: Men’s Volleyball - Mick - 01-22-2024

Interesting win. Stanford (6-0) won the first game over an overmatched Ball State (7-4), 25-9. They let up on the gas a bit, lost the second game 21-25, then won the next two, 30-28 and 25-18. As with the Penn State match, Stanford out hit Ball State, .303 to .185 in front of a very large crowd, 1,572. Stanford had 35 errors, Ball State had 47. It's a game of attrition, generally the team with the fewer errors (serving, hitting, blocking, serve receive) will win.

Ball State hasn't played difficult competition yet. They lost in four to USC, and lost to BYU twice, both matches in straight sets. They beat UC-San Diego, although I'm not sure that's saying much.

Will Rottman and Moses Wagner did well at the pins, Alex Rottman had a tough time (.125, 4 hitting errors, only 7 kills in 24 attempts). Adam Chang (.250) and Nathaniel Gates (.222) struggled, not what you want to see from middle hitters, but Chang blocked effectively with four blocks.
