Unless, of course, you turn around and can't avoid the other player's rear.

Only up 15 at the half?  Not enough to keep our bigs off the floor in the 2nd half (though, the refs might).

You noticed. Now it’s no foul if there’s blood, light tap on the wrist go to the line.

The third quarter… not so much. This looks a lot more like a game between the 11 th and 12 th teams in the conference than the 1st and 12th teams.

Brink’s 4th foul was a terrible call.

Agreed, that was a legitimate move to the basket.

Cam’s stat line: 18 pts, 17 rbs, 5 assists, 3 blocks, 1 steal, 4 fouls and 2 TOs in 28 min.

Pac-12 POW for sure; maybe National POW? Don’t know what all the rest of the country put up this weekend but 43 points and 41 rebounds over 2 games is nothing to sneeze at.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Oregon 2pm Satuday - M T - 03-02-2024

Of all the PAC-12 coaches outside of Stanford, Kelly Graves is the coach that comes across as a sincere & nice person.  I liked what he did before the game (to honor Stanford seniors & Tara) and what he said about the Oregon fans during the half time.  Although he's got a 10-year 62% winning record, this has been a disaster of a year, partly because of the toughest schedule in the nation, but partly because of the transfers.

I wish him well in the PAC-12 tournament, and I hope he's back next year and has a good year.  But I could see him (legitimately) letting someone else go up against a new conference (Big Ten).

I believe Clark only needs 17 points to pass Pete Maravich for the all time M or W scoring in a Sunday game.   I think that will get the nod if she gets it.

A twenty point win, on the road, and no one gets hurt, and players seem happy.  I'll definitely take that.

1) 9 players with double digit minutes.

2) Probably would have been 10 players in double digit minutes but Lepolo sat again.  They are saving the wear and tear on her knee, trying to keep her available for the tournaments.  I imagine the scoping for the meniscus (I've had 2) will come soon after the season.

3) 9 three pointers today--I was relieved to see that getting restarted after some poor long range shooting.  Good to see Demetre's shooting back on track in particular.

4) Harriel's shooting was a bit off (2/10) but she seems to be settling in to point guard duties with 4 assists to 1 turnover.  Very encouraging

5) We can ooo and ahhh all we want over Brink's stats, but let me just call attention to one:  she had 5 assists.  So important going forward to do this when other teams focus their attention on stopping her.

6) Iriafen had one of the most beautiful post moves I have seen, when she beat two defenders by going under them and doing a reverse layup.

Brink's still learning.  Against a smaller player, she needs to keep her elbow against her body.  That's an appropriate move against a player as big or bigger than she.  But it will get called against a much shorter player.

All good points, but about these two:

I agree that Stanford has had an easier path than the other PAC-12 leaders. Not only which teams they played, but also who was unavailable for the opponents.  I appreciated 81alum's earlier point about winning by two games makes the "which teams" argument weaker.

Across all players, there were a lot of reverse layups.  Maybe this is a consequence of practicing against Brink or Iriafen.

It was good to see both Brink and Iriafen do well against a big opponent.  It seems they've been adding moves recently.  I have to think Iriafen would love to share the stage and spotlight with Brink next year.  I'm sure in practice, they get to hone their skills against one of the nation's best.  Imagine another year of that.  Iriafen might not get quite as many points next year with Brink, but few teams can handle them as a pair.  The tag team use of one or the other has been useful, but they are best as twin trees.

I have disliked that floor since the first time I saw it. I understand the intent, to celebrate the trees of Oregon, but there must be a better design. To me, it looks the floor has a really ugly skin disease

Worst design on a floor I have ever seen...by far!

I think it looks great! Well, looks great if you don't have to watch a basketball game being played. Oregon's uniform colors blended into the floor and it was painful to watch. I'll probably be seeing it in my nightmares tonight.

It is second only to Boise State's football field for being the worst eyesore in college sports.

It looks horrible on TV, but looks much better inside the gym…I can see why they did it. But I do wonder why they use yellow uniforms if they know it looks bad on tv…

I agree with MT on this. I was sitting 2 rows above the low bleachers and right in the middle of the key. Cam raised her elbow as she turned to shoot and her elbow came close to the head of the smaller opponent.

I thought the foul calls on Kiki and Hannah for blocking jump shots were questionable.

A couple of additional points to this excellent summary:

The game felt like a foregone conclusion. When I entered the arena, I saw a lot of enthusiastic Duck fans in green (lotta green) - but they seemed resigned to losing to Stanford. Our team seemed pretty chill during shoot around and quietly confident- and why not?

Both teams were cold to start out, but they stayed cold - a testament to our defense. Harriel had a poor shooting day, but her defense looked very good - fighting over screens and always in position.

The interplay and passing between Cam and Kiki is wonderful to watch. There was none of that between the Oregon bigs - who’s coaching them?

RE: WBB: Stanford 76 Oregon 56 - Jskass - 03-03-2024

I also was surprised a bit that Kwei did not play even more earlier since she was effective- until the two quick fouls which reflected that we were figuring it out. Also, Tara was very actively and successfully coaching Cam to pass out of double and triple team coverage. Or should we call her Christine (?) Brink, as the announcer did in the pre-game nice nod and flowers to her and Jump!

I did appreciate their recognition of Tara and you could feel a palpable sadness about the end of the PAC-12 and that it might be a while before we play again.

RE: WBB: Stanford 76 Oregon 56 - TheFarm07 - 03-06-2024

How the mighty have fallen. What a difficult way for Oregon to end its season, scoring only 30 points and nearly being outscored by double in their opening round loss to Colorado today.

It was hard to imagine this a few years ago when they welcomed in the top recruiting class as Ionescu and co. were graduating
