Women running now
The Stanford Women finished 3rd. I was thinking 5th would be very good
Edit. Now the Women are 2nd barely out of first.
Something changed upon review
Fifth?!! The women were ranked 4th among ACC teams coming in. Win the tie-breaker with UNC on the head-to-head match-ups (not 6th man like in high school). 2nd is a great. I don't know what's going on with Bunnage, but they win easily with her in the race. Must be injured. If you've been around the sport long enough, that's not surprising just looking at her.
The men were the top-ranked team in the field and #5 nationally, but not a big shock to lose to #7 Wake Forest. Leo was a little disappointing for the 2nd race in a row and needs to be more consistent.

Great thank you.
Rankings in XC really don’t mean a lot.
I tend to look at the teams
Bunnage was entered for the previous meet. Strongly guessing she is or will redshirt

I didn't realize that the tie breaker isn't the 6th place runner, but the head to head matchup of each of the top 5 finishers of the tied teams.

Friday are the NCAAs west regionals. Stanford is expected to advance both teams to the Finals

That was close! Our first two runners finished behind UNC's first two; but our 4-5 runners finished ahead of UNC's. The key was our third-place runner, Riley Stewart, who finished just 0.7 seconds ahead of UNC's third-place runner.

Bunnage is back. Wasn't expecting that. I just watched a video of the team working out at Baylands and she was dropping the rest of the girls pretty hard. So she's definitely fit.

They advanced as an at-large team, which is all that matters in the end. But that was rough. They were running to win and had a solid lead at 5k and still led at 9k. Boyden was terrible, not sure what was going on there. I haven't heard anything about Lex but if he wasn't 100% for any reason then no reason to have him run. This team only goes 4 deep (Cole, Thomas, Lex, Leo) then hope for a good race from DiDidonato or one of the freshmen or possibly Nolan Topper. Bergeron has really stepped up lately.
As for the women, that was impressive. They also don't have a 5th, but that top 4 is as good as any in the country.

That's was a great run by the Stanford women! Congrats to them.
Stanford men on other hand with another disaster at Nats, finishing 12th. I'm starting to wonder if it's a coaching issue because this has happened too many times. Nolan Topper ran great, but the big dogs (Sprout, Boyden, Lex, Leo) were terrible. It's embarrassing that a team with this talent didn't even put one guy in the top 60. No idea what happened to Boyden but something must be wrong because he was at the back of the entire race two weeks in a row. But Ricardo raced him so they must have thought he was good to go. I also can't remember the last time DiDonato raced anywhere near his ability in cross country. Only guys who ran decently or better were Topper (3rd man!) and Bergeron (frosh and 5th man).

Boyden training last 10 days seemed great. Santos was excellent his first 4 seasons. Not so last two

In 2022 they were ranked #1 going into Nats and placed a distant 4th, barely ahead of 5th. That was the year that Charles won it. So that's at least 3 years. I don't know if it's Santos or the guys (have Sprout or Boyden ever run well at Nats?), but there's too much talent on this roster to not be in the mix every year. And it seems like they run great most every year at the conference champs then the wheels come off, which points to coaching.
I just looked: Sprout has placed 72, 95, 118 and 81 in the last 4. Boyden has been 218, 75, DNS and 75. That's just not getting it done. And Lex and Leo are only sophs, but it's fair to say that they were among the best HS runners ever. Like I said, I'm starting to think it might be Santos. I've heard mixed things and mostly have defended him, but I'm not there so who knows.

A secret ingredient to BYU's men's and women's teams' championships this year: due to the cold weather (in the 30s), they coated their bodies with olive oil minutes before the start of the race.
