At the half
Lots to love & hate bout this game
Was hoping for more stress free experience
But hey up by one better than down by one

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Miami Thursday 7pm; preview and game thread - martyup - 02-27-2025

In the first half we had 11 assists on 17 made baskets.

If didn’t really need a win tonight this would be a super fun game to watch

Miami has gone cold finding a shot and making a shot.

Up 55-46
Seems like at halftime Bosgana drank a gallon of Red Bull
And Coach P lit a fire under some defensive derrières

Bosgana and the defense have decided to show up in the second half

I'm glad that this post didn't age well.

We are shooting 100% from 3 in the second half and 64.7% 66.7% for the game.

Miami starting to look like a team with four conference wins.  Stanford playing much better defense.

Good time out. Suddenly we got really ragged.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Miami Thursday 7pm; preview and game thread - martyup - 02-27-2025

Tonight we are scoring consistently.  1st Q -- 22 points, 2nd Q -- 23 points, 3rd Q -- 23 points.

The game flow graphic really does illustrate that better 3Q play.  Miami was scoreless for almost four and a half minutes coming out of the half...maybe it's the 11pm body clock effect lol.

Stanford's gone a bit cold over the last three minutes. Let's not let this one slip away...

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Miami Thursday 7pm; preview and game thread - Hieronymus - 02-27-2025

First half 9 fouls
4:23 seconds into q4 8 fouls

And exactly 5 min in we are up to 9. So 4x the first half rate.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Miami Thursday 7pm; preview and game thread - martyup - 02-27-2025

We have 21 assists on 28 made baskets.  Excellent.

With 3:35 left in the game, we're trading missed Miami 3pt attempts for layups.  Fifteen point lead!  Very much the opposite of what Miami was looking for.

Miami with 20 points in-the 17 minutes of the 2nd half. Defense made a brobdingnagian turnaround

Impressive team play in 4Q

Very happy for the win.

First, my observations about Ogden.  Ogden had 2 points in the first quarter, and she was consistently passing up open shots.  It was obvious that her confidence was not there.  In the second quarter she took a three which hit the rim, bounced around, and finally went in.  I saw her face as she turned around to head back on defense.  She was grinning from ear to ear.  After that lucky bounce-in for a trey, she went on to score 12 points in the quarter, going 3/3 from three point range.  Her defense also looked better.  Clearly, when her confidence switch gets turned on she is a different player.

Second, our defense was indeed remarkably better in the second half.  Here are the combined points for the Cavender twins by quarter:
1. 17
2. 9
3. 2
4. 7
I am not sure what we did, but it worked.  Clardy looked much better on defense in the second half.  I also thought Harriel gave us some good minutes on defense.

As I told the Cardboarders at the half, our offense is a different offense when Demetre is hitting her threes.  It is not just that we miss her points when she is slumping.  We need her points to open the floor for everyone else.  Demetre's offensive slumps have been very difficult to recover from.  Thank goodness she was "on" tonight.

Finally, a lot of nice Princeton-like cuts in the game.  Miami does not have the length that a team like Duke has, and so they could not deflect those feeder passes.  Instead of generating turnovers, they generated points.  They finally worked the way they were supposed to work.
