Final score was 79-70. Somebody in Las Vegas knows what they're doing.

Disappointing, but not unexpected result. Roster deficiencies becoming magnified with Okpara out. Cammann & Rohosy are OK as role players, but Stanford is now much too dependent on them. Giltay did return to the game - lack of minutes was maybe due to fouls?? Not sure what is doing on with Donavin Young - started, but played 3 minutes?

I like that this team competes hard, and put themselves in a position to steal a big win on the road. But, as my high school baseball coach always said, "You've got to have the horses." Right now, Kyle Smith does not have the horses. Hopefully, next year's freshman class (and maybe some transfers??) can start to turn that around.

FT difference curious. Desperate for some offense from the bigs. If we had Renaud and Okpara, we'd be pretty good. Giltay and Camann will continue to improve, but do we have a promising big next year? Maybe Hakeem's son will grow a couple inches.

Maxime posting up and making deceptive no look pass to the cutting Okorie who slides in for a layup and one
Unfortunately I woke up
Maxime is in the NBA
And Okorie teamed up with, well, not Maxime

The worst part is that the most likely outcome is that Okorie will either go to the NBA or portal to the highest bidder and a generational player will most likely not go to the tournament with a Stanford jersey on his back.  When Brevin Knight transformed the Stanford team, he also didn’t go to the Tournament his freshman year.  But with the arrival of Tim Young the next year, we got to witness how Brevin sparked a return to being a top tier team.  The most incredible thing was that we went to the Final Four the year after he left, showing that his he started a flywheel whose momentum continued into men’s basketball success until Mamlet and Montgomery’s retirement derailed it.

In a different era, Okorie could have been the spark that resurrected Stanford basketball for a generation.  But in today’s environment, it would be a most pleasant surprise if we even got to see him at Stanford two years.

I think it almost certain he leaves after this year. Being a "one-and-done" and going to the NBA is certainly going to be an option. The only reason not to do that would be if he thought his draft position could be greatly improved by playing on a better team AND he would get payed basically NBA money to do so. Stanford can't offer the former and probably not the latter either. Either way, he is gone.

The only saving grace is his parents are both Harvard alums and might value education above pure playoff potential.  He was initially committed to Harvard.  I hope Stanford pays up and keeps him.

RE: MBB: Stanford at Miami, 6PM, ACCN - Sam Leopold - 01-28-2026

The day Miami hired Jai Lucas away from Duke, I knew this game was going to be a loss.

When Jai Lucas departed for Coral Gables, Jon Scheyer released a statement that went along the lines of, "This is going to go well for Miami.  The guy is a legitimate head coach."  His first year is bearing that out.  It didn't hurt that he was able to bulldoze the ruins of the previous regime and bring in an all-new roster.  That avenue of program overhaul isn't quite available to Stanford, who is in the process of rebuilding the old-fashioned way.

Next up is a trip to Florida State, who just cooled Cal off.  Whatever our goals for this season might be, we don't absolutely have to win this game in order to meet them but it sure would be nice.  The NCAA tourney was always mostly a pipe dream.  If Kyle Smith actually takes this team to the tourney, he is God, or a sorcerer.  4 wins between now and the end of the season, ACC tourney included, is an NIT trip, which would be a very good outcome considering that we started out with a T-Rank of 102 on barttorvik.com at the beginning of the season.

So painful to watch us claw back and take the lead and then relinquish it down the stretch....again!  That dream of Okorie and Maxime on the same team is one I've had as well...yes, likely with with a nice pinot too - Kosta or Dumol for me.    Thanks for the Lando tip, Tony!  Although it looks like it's hard to find.  I will seek it out!

As for Okorie, I'm ever the optimist that he stays at least one more year.   Our bigs just can't finish even when they are right there at the hoop.  Giltay reminds me of freshman Maxime...who was also a turnover machine.  There was much gnashing of teeth in the last five minutes of that game.  Yes, I could have used some Lando tonight!

OK! thanks your link, a mind-bogglingly impressive collection reviewed there!
Still working, so I don't get to visit many wineries in person but can do on occasion.
I understand your reaction to Daou, but I do think their reserve cab is very good.
BTW the elusive SineQuaNon is geographically convenient but remains an enigma wrapped in a riddle.

Under most radars. Very eclectic, scarce, hard to find. I’ve had a lucky 2 bottles over the years, both fantastic.

I’m (get this) on the waiting list for their mailing list. Pretty sure I understand why. But it’s … unusual.

Thanks for the tip!  I'll be on the lookout, though as a filthy casual, I'll only have the pleasure of recognizing the name and never laying eyes on a bottle :)
