Re: Jordan Williamson - dabigv13 - 01-02-2012

That Oregon State kicker from a years ago comes to mind as a player who came in as a heralded freshman blew a game or two with TERRIBLE misses (Was it to LSU? I can't recall), and ended up later becoming the Lou Groza Award winner. Williamson can get over this.

I blame Shaw for putting him in that situation as a frosh who already missed from not too long earlier in the night.

Well said.  Good players sometimes make bad plays. Andrew Luck threw an interception that lost the 2009 Big Game.  It would have been insane to conclude to conclude based on that that he'd always fail under pressure. It would be almost as insane to draw that same conclusion about Williamson now.

Please forgive me...I am not trying to be an idiot and I do not wish to be subject of personal attacks (and negative ratings!! ;)).  Perhaps I should not have used as strong wording as I did, so please allow myself to rephrase.

I would be perfectly okay if he is our kicker in the future.  This is college football and his playing does not make affect anyone else's life.  The world is obviously bigger than Stanford football.  He could easily win the Lou Groza next year and make every FG.  He could miss every FG, but I do not have anything against him as a person.  I am not saying Whitaker or anyone else should get the job over him during camp just because he missed the kick.

All I am saying is that his confidence is likely very shaken, perhaps beyond repair.  When time comes for another big kick, I do not have confidence he will make it.  If you do, that is fine.  I will be the happiest person in the world if he kicks every game winning FG in the future.

So strictly from a football sense, TO ME, I do not have enough confidence he will make the big kicks in the future.  Please do not call me an idiot just because of my belief.  We are all on the same team and I'm still incredibly proud of this team and this season.

Williamson is going to be a great kicker. Shaw is an idiot though.
