Which one again proves the rule that ESPN is driving all things college sports these days. I was surprised to see the Ohio St.-Illinois basketball game on Tuesday. A Tuesday! Don't these kids have classes Wednesday? But the almighty dollar is strong.

College basketball is ridiculous. The kids are never there during the week.
That's why it cracks me up when people say we can't possibly have a football playoff because the players would miss too many classes. It's already happening in spades in college basketball.

I seem to remember that the Pac-10 turned down an ESPN deal some time ago -- perhaps ten years ago -- precisely because they would've had to go away from the Thursday-Saturday basketball schedule that makes so much sense. And JPRI is absolutely right. A football playoff would probably cause kids to miss maybe one extra Friday of classes, considering most of those playoff games would be played during winter break. Also, I'm betting a brobdingnagian percentage of football players don't schedule Friday classes. Heck, I was an English major, so I rarely had Friday classes.

Sometimes I miss the old days when I just cheered for the team on a handful of Saturdays in the fall. Now I'm obsessed with the Twitter feeds of eighteen-year-olds. Not healthy.
