Malcolm Jones has been stuck behind Johnathan Franklin and Derrick Coleman at RB. Franklin and Coleman have received by far the bulk of the carries. Jones' stats:
2010: 55 attempts, 200 yards, 3.6 yards/att., 0 TD
2011: 25 attempts, 103 yards, 4.1 yards/att., 1 TD
Zumwalt has played more than Jones. He got regular playing time as a freshman, finishing 8th on the team in tackles. This year as a sophomore, Zumwalt was 3rd on the team in tackles. His stats:
2010: 32 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 3 sacks
2011: 60 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 0 sacks

The Stats on Zumwalt are actually better than I thought, but I expected after his promising freshman year that he would really emerge as a force on defense, along the lines of Chase Thomas if he played on the outside, or a run-stuffer on the inside if he ended up there. His lack of sacks and failure to improve substantially on his TFL numbers (he did not start from game one in his freshman year, but started moving into the lineup about mid-season) are the surprising thing to me. Thanks for grabbing the stats, Terry

Zumwalt is a case in point to prove the recruiting adage, it's not who you lose, but that whoever you get must perform.Â
It would have been nice to have landed Zumwalt, just like it would have been nice to have landed Manti Teo, Anthony Sarao, and Ifeadi Odenigbo, but look at the results. Stanford finished #4 in the country in rush defense without Zumwalt, Teo, or Sarao. Again, it's not who you miss on, but how good those you get become.
However, I must admit, it would have been awesome to have seen Teo paired with Skov at ILB.

Might have made one or two more stops in the Oregon games that could have made the difference.

I've heard that Kodi Whitfield is an admissions concern - hence the UCLA visit.

So much for the notion of legacies being given special treatment?

Kodi cleared admissions this week, but Greg Biggens tweeted that Whitfield will still take a visit to UCLA.

obviously sudden changes happen, but I'm sure feeling better about the Whitfield situation now that he has been admitted
