Re: WBB: Stanford 82 UCLA 59 - Mike - 02-14-2012

Thank you to everyone for the insights and opinions following the UCLA game. I'm going to change the subject for a minute, however, with a recruiting update:

2013 / 4-star / 92 rating / #55-ranked / #14-ranked PG / 5-9 / Christen Inman, Katy TX -- was considering Stanford, Rice, Vanderbilt and Northwestern. She was one of four 2013 HS recruits in whom Stanford had "officially" expressed interest. She just declared for Northwestern. (Christen, what were you thinking?!)

That matters in two ways:

1. As of the moment (and this is according to the HoopGurlz recruiting site), Stanford currently no longer has a G/PG under "official" consideration for a WBB scholarship for 2013 (or 2012 or 2014, for that matter).

2. And so, with only three 2013 HS players currently remaining under "official" consideration (two Fs and a W), there is now room to redshirt Mykaela Ruef, should we decide not to seek a different 2013 player, let alone a 2013 G/PG. Of course, that would then only leave us with five guards for two years ... unless someone switched positions. (Like Taylor? She was a guard in HS, handles the ball well, and appears more comfortable on the perimeter than under the basket.)

Anyway, new food for thought.

I wouldn't get too discouraged. There is nothing official about the schools listed on HoopGurlz. They are just schools that HG heard the player is interested in. Not everyone being recruited by Stanford tells HoopGurlz that, and of course Stanford, like all schools, does not publicize who they are recruiting. Conversely, a player whose HG profile lists Stanford hasn't necessarily been offered, been admitted, or even filled out an application.

Not that Spokane isn't a nice city, and they do support the event.

VG

The above quote by the normally insightful VG suggests that VG has not been to Spokane.  A Spokane local with compromising pics of an NCAA official is a more credible explanation for its multiple-year selection as a site.  Denver & the Pepsi Center for this year's Final Four is a great improvement over other recent Final Four sites ... it would be nice if the Cardinal can make the trip.

It was a bit shocking to see the SEC-leading UKentucky get beat down by an only marginally impressive Vols team earlier this week.  Neither team looks better than a #3 seed.

Well I have been to Spokane -- many times -- when I lived in the area. VG's right; it's a nice city.

I gather you didn't attend the Opening Day festivities for the St. Louis Cardinals when the Final Four was in St. Louis.  I bought an SRO ticket, thoroughly enjoyed myself,...and have gotten a lot of mileage since recounting how it was SNOWING!!! at various points in the game.  I'd say that would also qualify as "...frigid in early April... ."
