Pretty sure CR7 wanted the last kick, so he could reap the glory of winning it all.

Anyway, I'm glad that tiki-taka tomfoolery is over and we can get on with what should be a much more entertaining semifinal. Forza Italia!

It was beautiful watching Ronaldo's face after Fabregas nailed it! I was also happy to see that the ref didn't buy into his diving.

The two overtimes and then deciding championships by penalty kicks is so awful.

Should be sudden death.  Play one 15 min OT.  If it's still tied, take a guy off the field for each team.  Then another 15 and another guy off the field, and so on, until someone scores a goal being defended.

Penalty kicks should only be used in regular season ties.  The NHL has it right.

I think blaming Spain for the lack of entertainment goes a bit overboard. They probably play more boring than they should, but overall most of the blame goes on the cowardice of teams facing them. Double fullbacks to defend Spain? Ridiculous.

Anyway, Germany's going to win anyway. Amazing that they've been as successful as they've been and gotten nothing from Mario Goetze, who's the only player I've seen worth comparing to Messi.

If there was any doubt before, there can be none now:  This thread is rocketing to the top of the "Most Meandering Off-Topic Thread of the Year" List.  It started with a 4-star LB recruit, made a quick detour to teejers personal hell, and has now landed in a discussion of the productivity of somebody named Mario Goetze -- who? -- plays soccer for Germany.

Pretty impressive...  ;D

We are all just insanely meandering in this two month period before football starts up...

Re: Very, Very Big Recruiting News - oman - 06-28-2012

Oh, and his name is Mario McFly.

That's Gomez.

My bad.  I need to watch the Germans more closely.

(Probably not bad historical advice, in general....)

I thought that was a quote from Albert Lebrun.

Re: Very, Very Big Recruiting News - washingtonismoney - 06-28-2012

Certainly not my greatest prediction over.

Loew screwed up the starting lineup. No point in starting Podolski and Kroos when you've got Reus and Goetze. But Loew went with his favorites and paid for it.

NOTE: Haven't actually yet seen the second half. Catching up on it now. Reus and Klose for Podolski and Gomez is close to what I would've had, except I would've dropped Kroos too.
